My Nismo had a dual mass flywheel and single disc as oem. When I went twin turbo. I went with a dual disc carbon ATS. That was a $3,200 hit.
Ouchies. I've ripped out a few dmfw for single mass with upgraded single disc, never really needed an aftermarket twin disc yet(sub 600whp builds). That would change if I S/C the Bullitt. I may just regear and put that hypothetical money into the Gladi. An ACT clutch being higher up on the list.

Additionally, I looked at some All Data sheets of the clutch job, wasn't conclusive, but is starting to look more like just a DMFW single disc setup. Heck, I'm going to scour youtube a bit tomorrow and see if somebody shows the OEM clutch components uninstalled.

After work tomorrow I will tear into the stock clutch looking for that infamous second disc. I was always told It was a dual disc, and I can verify one way or the other much more easily than looking at diagrams.

Dang! You weren’t supposed to see that yet! I am putting a thread together with JL clutch info and that’s just part of it.

From all the pictures I've seen. The clutch looks like a single disc. In your video. I see where you actually have to tear the pressure plate apart to get to the one disc. What year did Jeep started to go with the dual disc?

The pedal travel is feeling much more normal after a couple of days, and the pedal force is very normal. more than a stock JT but comparable to my wife's JK or other similar trucks.
Awesome, thanks for posting the review. That sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, I will likely go this same route.

After seeing the video, step 4 makes more sense. Since the one disc is aligned in the pressure plate, and the flywheel side disc indexes off the PP disc that is clamped/centered static-ly in the PP, NO alignment tool is needed. This was puzzling me a bit before, it all makes sense now! Lmfao!!

How are you liking the clutch/flywheel now that it has been in for a few weeks? What are your further thoughts about the extra inertia?

The clutch is great. It is exactly what is needed to make the gladiator 6 speed feel “normal”. The extra inertia is a game changer, honestly I’d consider one just a little bit heavier for rock crawling. I’ve put about 3500 offroad/adventure miles on the clutch and my only complaint is that it glazes after a hard day of wheeling and will chatter at low RPM. I’ve found the fix To it, is to grab a couple of hard shifts pulling back out onto the road.
It’s a great upgrade to the jeep, if I was going to change anything about the clutch I would make the flywheel SLIGHTLY heavier and SLIGHTLY less grabby. But ACT nailed on this clutch otherwise.

I just dropped my truck off this weekend to get the ACT installed. I don't have the time to do it myself like you did.

I ended up having to go an hour out to find a shop willing to install the aftermarket parts, that was a PITA. Ended up finding a shop that specializes in jeep restorations in Marne, MI. Hopefully they don't have any issues with the install.

Your thread is what pushed me from the center force to the ACT. (It also helped that ACT ran a decent deal around Thanksgiving). Fingers crossed that I have the same results as you.

Unfortunately my install is after my last off-road trip, so it'll be a minute till I can test it on rocks.

Picked mine up today. I have to say... just wow.

I did a little test at the bottom of my (steep) driveway. I stopped at the bottom of the driveway and put it in reverse, let go of the clutch, no gas. The engine bogged for a second then the jeep climbed right up.

That same operation would have required some finagling between the skinny pedal and the clutch with the oe equipment and even then I (driving manual transmissions since I was 16) would regular stall out the gladiator.

It's even more impressive that the ACT was able to do that from a complete stop with the vehicle starting on an incline instead of flat.

I can't say I have any complaints yet (just got it back today) but if I had to make comments (minor) Id say that the engagement location in the pedal felt weird at first (like too close to the floor) But that seemed to not be as much of an issue (if at all) by the end of the day, either it was just cause the parts are new and breaking in or I just got used to it.

Also now when I push the clutch , the clutch definitely pushes back lol. It almost feels like someone added a spring to push the pedal back up when you depress it.

Overall I only drove the vehicle maybe 3 hours today but so far I have to say 10 out of 10 would do again.

@ACTman the owner of the jeep shop that did the work commented on the quality of the kit. He said "you picked out a real quality kit". The mechanics also said they watched your YouTube install video a few times before cracking it open and commented that it made the process a lot easier.
