I just feel less tech in my life is a good thing.. So I opted out of the safety features when ordering my Mojave ...
I understand that, but I have been in a lot of cars with the safety features and they have helped a lot. I'm not keeping the car for more than a few years anyway. My next one with be the JT 4xe... whoa tech!

Once we go full electric .. Im hoping those will be standard options .. then I have no choice but to conform ;) .. However the blind spot monitoring in the JT I may regret not adding from what I hear ...

I opted out of it.

I've driven a few rental cars with it and tried to use it but most of the time turned it back off quick. I wasn't a huge fan of how it seemed to either be breaking or accelerating with no real in-between. From this, I decided another generation down it should be perfect and I will opt in on my next vehicle.

Couple things to note though:
-I have not driven this on a JT specifically, so it could be better than a beat up rental.
-I have not spent "a lot" of time with it on, my displeasure could have gone away with just a longer learning curve.
-I would not actively avoid this feature if I was buying off the lot

Nothing more irritating than a vehicle on adaptive cruise control sitting mindlessly on the passing lane blocking everyone else.
That's not how this works! .... Is it? I've only ever rented vehicles with ACC; I thought once the space in front of you opened up it automatically sped back up for you - or does it only brake and you have to 'manually' accelerate again?

I'll admit I hated it when it first became a thing. Just took some getting used to. I complained so much at first that my wife now finds it funny that it's a must-have on the Jeep for me. Blind spot monitoring too. Hated it at first, but got over that super fast. At this point it should be a standard feature.

I absolutely hate adaptive cruise control; it turns drivers into mindless drones.

Driving requires a minimum degree of mental engagement. If you don’t want to drive, do everyone else a favor and stay in the couch!
I was going to write the same thing! People need to stay alert and not have another excuse to check their phones while driving.

It accelerates to the set speed once the "obstruction" has cleared. Now if a driver has set their speed too low then that is a separate issue.

Have a 4runner equipped with this feature, can bet set for 1,2,3 car lengths or can be disabled for normal cruise. It came equipped on the 4runner and works rather well, but for now, I don't think I'd pay extra for the feature. Yes, it and some of the other automated controls could be considered a safety or convenience features. As mentioned in an earlier post, this will end up being used as an excuse for folks to pay even less attention to the road. Especially for those who like playing on the built-in tablets that's in most vehicles have now days, just don't get caught playing on your phone. However, with time, these types of options will eventually become standard equipment. Having said that, how may here can remember when features like A/C, power windows & door locks were options? Damn, I getting old.

Interestingly, a recent experiment found the opposite to be true.
Giant pink bear strapped to car reveals a lot about driver ...

Nearly all of the drivers with system experience noticed the bear and were more likely than the others to remember how many times it passed by while the first-timers were least likely to report seeing it at all.

Cameras mounted in the cars found that the experienced drivers were scanning more of the road instead of just looking straight ahead, suggesting that unfamiliarity with the system among the first-timers reduced their situational awareness.

IIHS notes that the test involved a small sample and isn't conclusive of anything, but offers added insight into how drivers interact with the technology. It also notes that there are plenty of real-world instances of drivers relying too greatly on the limited capability of the systems and getting into accidents while taking their eyes off of the road completely to use handheld devices or operate controls in the vehicle.
Now this is a very, very limited "study" - but seems to indicate once passed the learning curve, drivers are MORE aware of their surroundings while using it. (assuming you know, you're not distracted but something else already....)

To your point, it can be true. They even admit it is a problem. Maybe we should go from human driving straight to computer driving, and skip this half and half phase.

Will be very interesting to see if more trials like this get done.

No need to make it personal. But since you brought it up, you sound like the typical mindless driver.

I'll never buy another vehicle without Adaptive Cruise Control. I use it every day to and from work and after having it on the JT and not having it on my wife's 4Runner, I would get frustrated with just regular cruise control.

I will say that if you live in an area where you plan on changing windshields, it's a lot more expensive to change one with an ACC one since it is different than standard and there's a chance the ACC has to be recalibrated when changing out the windshield. I'm getting mine done (again) on Friday and it's $670 for a new one.

I'll echo what several people have said. It was not on my priority list. But I ended up picking up a used JT with ACC. We did a 7hr road trip in the first couple weeks of owning it. I'm converted. It's easy to use and reduces fatigue on long trips. I don't use it everyday but I love it for long highway drives or slow moving traffic.

I don’t have my Jeep yet but I ordered it for three reasons in this order of priority. I doubt I’ll use it except on long road trips.

insurance discount

The alert and brake application just in case someone pulls one of those a hole emergency right turns (typically into a shopping center or gas station) or when merging on the freeway the car in front suddenly forgets how to yield

trips with large convoys of jeeps. Bullshitting on the radio is one time I find myself to be a little more distracted as a driver

a lot of people claim to be perfect drivers. No one is. And even a split second more heads up isn’t a bad thing
