I was gonna do a tire swap used my AEV jack base and the damn thing flew out under the factory jack. Luckily I was waiting to remove the tire when it happened so it just fell down on the tire.

I’ll post a picture of where I had it? I like having the base because you can use the factory jack off-road or lifted tires. Was this the wrong tracking point?

No damage but the jack is tweaked.

Wrong jacking point. Should be under an axle tube.

The floor looks pretty smooth/slick. Prob wouldn’t take much of being off center for it to want to scoot under all that weight. But in general, the set up you have pictured gives me anxiety. Personally wouldn’t count on that in any situation. Factory jack is not great, and that base would be hard to keep perfectly level I’d think, but never used it myself.

Those scissor jacks aren't meant to be use in parallel to vehicle length. Use it under the axles is fine. Notice how jack on wheels alway move forward while raising the vehicle?. It's due to jack point angle. And, always pumps with the handle bar parallel with the floor so the jack can moves with vehicle. Avoid pumping by pulling down on the handle from vertical position as that can slip the jack away from the frame/jack point.

At some point in time the shape of the jack "foot" has changed from what AEV designed their jack base to.

Their product page:

https://www.aev-conversions.com/product/jl-jack-base/

Has this image:

Where you can see that the metal "foot" of the jack has curved up edges and fits within the recess in the AEV base. My jack wouldn't sit flat in that recess, so I cut / ground the front lip in the base to get enough clearance so it would.

The jack appears to be pressing on the end of the control arm. As you raise the vehicle this end of the control arm rotates, and wants to roll off of the top of the jack. Use the axle tubes instead.
This ^ never jack under a pivot. It's kind of an easy mistake to make if you're used to an independent suspension vehicle, the axle tube is much lower to the ground anyway.

People use the factory crap screw jack in their garage where they could easily store a real floor jack? Why? Sure it's compact and light and in the Jeep if I HAVE to jack it up away from home, but why on earth would I break that garbage out at home? You just like twisting the handle a million times to rotate tires? Beyond that I agree with the others, the arm rotates as you lift putting lateral force on the jack and base.

My son's 22 year old factory scissors jack failed on his 2003 S10 crew cab pick up last fall. I wasn't there and my assumption is he was jacking it at the wrong location and most likely over extended it when he was changing a flat tire. Things can go south quickly. My son was lucky too as the tire wasn't fully off the axle when it failed and no damage was done.

Glad you suffered no damage to the Gladiator.

I’ve thought about it, for all the wrong reasons. I don’t like scissor jacks, but have fancied the idea of being able to use some kind of jack, that I could interface with my cordless 1/2” impact. No more manual twisting, no more handle pumping. A car lift for residential diy use just costs too much $$$. I just want an off-road floor jack that I can stick a 20v lithium rechargeable battery in, and press a button to raise and lower the vehicle. Heck, I wouldn’t even need room for the arc of the handle. Bottle jacks and hi lift jacks should accept a rechargeable battery too; brushless motors are good enough that I bet that it would work out.
