My one year old willys speakers sound like crap! Have the alpine speaker upgrade and was never impressed. Soon after the sound bar speakers started to have a fuzzy noise with sports radio and now I have to have the bass almost off or it sounds like my high school boom box with mega bass on! Anyone have this problem and/or what to upgrade the speakers too? Thanks

For each speaker, stuff the area behind with some poly fill ( pillow stuffing ) to reduce resonance and buzz.

If that isn't sufficient:

There are several direct replacements for the 3.5" speakers in the upper dash and in the sound bar. I used Kenwood Excelon KFC-X3C.

For the 4" in the sound bar you can use Kicker 47KSC404. Flex the 4 tabs until the break off the use the 3-tab ring instead.

The 4" in the lower dash are hard to get to.

In each case, if you use Crutchfield be sure to order the connection adapters for the JT.

For the dash, I also pulled off the panel below the steering wheel and took out the glove box and reached in and slapped some accousting mat around each speaker and behind as many panels as I could reach, trying to reduce the resonant booming.

Thanks! I saw the kenwood speakers and liked how easy they went in. I’ll try the poly fill first!

Even if the poly fill solves the buzzing problem, the 3.5" dash speakers are still worth swapping for better highs and clarity.

The 'buzzy' noise is usually the resonance in their mounts. Same thing in my JK. When I upgraded to Kickers it became more pronounced so I had to go back in and insulate them more.

My Willy's didn't have the upgraded Alpine system. As with 2 other Jeeps, I put kicker 6x9's in the sound bar and 6x5's in the dash down by the knees. Also added a kenwood amp for volume when my roof is off. Instant improvement in sound. My installer add the polyfill around the speakers in the soundbar as well.

Update: put the poly fill in the sound bar. WOW what a difference. I do think the screws were also a little loose so that helped too!

On day two I pulled the soundbar speakers and installed Poly-Fill. Also added a Mopar hardtop headliner. I am very satisfied with the sound quality now.

I would still recommend upgrading the dash 3.5", but less so the sound bar speakers since they seem to only provide fill, and even less so the lower dash 4" which is a pain to get to.

Not that it really matters, but as far as I know the Alpine system upgrade is only an amp and sub, the speakers are all the same regardless.

I went with the JBL 6x9 in the sound bar and infinitys in the dash. Definitely an improvement, but I still need to add a sub.

I don't have the alpine system personally.

which speakers can you add the poly fill to ? Do you buy it in bulk and just stuff in as much as you can ? Are the speakers that are able to have the poly fill behind them open or closed (are they contained to hold the poly) ?... thanks

A fabric store has fill for pillows, more than you can ever use for cheap.

For each speaker, just unbolt it, stuff fill into any channel behind the speaker, and also the space behind the speaker itself. A medium amount, not as much as possible. Replace and move to the next.

The sound bar has places where you can reach in pretty far to fill. The upper dash speakers are mostly just a bit behind the speaker itself.

Edit: The 4" speakers have ports which are shaped like curved tubes. Leave those open and leave open a path for sound to get to them.

I have the "upgraded" alpine system, but getting ready to add some infinity 3032s to the front corners... probably will do the "Puff n Stuff" at the same time... thanks !
