I’m actually disappointed with the Alpine system in my LE, especially the Subwoofer.

I've deleted my post. Had bad info in it.

Sorry, everyone.

Per the Build/Price function with the Sport S:

Selecting the Premium Audio System (1295) requires the addition of 7" Radio Group (995) and the Convenience Group (595).
Total of 2885. This assumes automatic trans.

My experience is coming from the sound box (environment) of a JLU.

We have the Alpine audio system. I compared the sound signature of the Stock JLU audio system to a our Alpine Audio and difference was negligible.

You have another Forum member @WXman who also compared the sound signature of a stock JLU sound system with the Alpine system in a JT. Their verdict - same as mine, not worth it.

Now, every other forum member here who is proclaiming that the JT Alpine audio upgrade as "awesome" and "worth it" did not say they compared it to a stock JL/JT sound system. Rather, they compared it to another sound system, housed in another sound environment (different car, different audio brand, later model Jeep, Boat etc.) that is not even closely comparable or helpful to this debate.

Last, if you plan to purchase the 8.4" screen anyways, like what we did in our JLU, then yes, I absolutely see the point of also getting the upgraded Alpine system for an additional $300. not only do you get a Bass driver (sub) but you also get auto dimming rear view mirrors. I do love the auto dimming mirrors.

Now, if you are purchasing a Sport S, then HELL NO the Alpine Audio is not worth the $1200+.

Hopefully that clarifies my opinion. Although I do believe I do not stand alone on this.

I can compare the Sport S stereo upgrade to the stock Alpine system in our 2015 Durango Citadel. Not nearly as good as the Citadel (it's fantastic). My opinion of the JT upgrade is "meh".

Haven't heard the stock stereo in a JT.

I'm going full nuclear option with complete aftermarket upgrade. However, based on what I've read from JL and JT users. Audiophiles may not be happy with the Alpine upgrade at $1200.

I'm coming from a complete aftermarket setup in my JK, Pioneer HU, Polk DB components in dash and soundbar, small sub and 1000 watt analog Eclipse amp. This thing was loud! I've posted an excellent link from Anne at Car Stereo Chick below. She is active on the JL forums regarding audio of these late models.

This article spells out what it takes to upgrade these suckers. When I'm back from overseas the very first upgrade my JT is getting is a stereo, I will of course post a full write up. I'm hoping I can get something similar to below for $4,000 ish. But if one is patient and meticulous they can of course do the upgrade themselves.

I deleted my post that you quoted, and your post quoting me has been deleted by the moderator, I presume. No harm done in the end. I mistakenly computed the cost of the stereo upgrade on the JT Sport S. Post #18 contains the accurate info, to the best of my knowledge.

Looks as though the same upgrade is a MUCH better value in the Rubicon.

Would be nice to know the actual products / product numbers of the standard audio system and the upgrade components. Too bad it has become the norm for manufacturers not to provide this. Boat makers are vague about it as well.

So is it a question of how many speakers, or the larger screen? If you get the larger screen the alpine system is only a few hundred dollars more.$300 to be sure. So if you need to qualify the value, get the larger screen, and then get the alpine system because upgrading the speakers is not as easy as just throwing a subwoofer in there.
If by "larger screen" you mean the 8.4"... everything I've seen says you get the Alpine Premium Audio with that upgrade. So it's not more expensive to add the speakers, the speakers just come with that head unit. (Which is to say you can't get the 8.4" without getting Premium Alpine.)

It'd be more accurate to say, if you're paying for Premium Alpine you might as well just pay the extra $300 to get the better head unit.

I thought the same - but I tried in the build tool and you can get the 8.4 without premium audio - or at least I think you can.

But yea the point is - it’s hard to upgrade these new car stereos, so getting the “better” one from the factory is a good value, in my opinion.

Hah, go figure the order tool gives different results than the actual configurator or order PDF. I think the Jeep folks are still dialing in the order process. /c:

As far as head units, that's where I stand. If I decided I really want them offroad pages and wifi antenna of the 8.4" then I'll upgrade and accept the speakers as a perk. That being said, the 7.0" isn't a piece of junk by any means, so I'm still on the fence. The fact that I can get a more portable version of the GPS stuff in a tablet or Garmin Overlander, that isn't a feature I'm interested in from Jeep.

Makes sense yea. I think if the extra features of the 8.4 aren’t relevant, then yea no use spending any extra cash.

Does the non-alpine system come with 8 speakers? Anybody have any suggestions on upgrading the stock speakers cost vs the alpine system?
