Alu-Cab Canopy Camper

I haven’t built much inside. In my opinion, if it’s raining and we are inside the main area, I want to be able to see out the windows. That necessitates sitting low, on the floor or a cushion. The addition of permanent cabinets etc would just make that more difficult. I have my fridge in the truck cab.

The only thing I have done is install 400w of solar and a removable solar generator. I added a Bedrug which makes the floor flat and comfortable. I have also constructed a folding set of 1x8 boards that fit into the groove in the sides of the gladiator bed. When I setup camp, I use that to create a small bunk for my daughter (60” long, which is actually longer than the bed length)

Which solar panels did you use???

What is the measurement of the large bed portion before putting down the little back portion?

I know I had that in my notes at one time but I can’t find it now. I think it’s 82”. But if it’s critical I can go out and measure it

No doubt. Wife and I are the same height. We almost never close it. We also have two fans that blow through that gap as well.

Agreed. We sleep with the small part open. We left it in so far to create a mosquito barrier.

This Fan is what we use to circulate air when the heater is on and when it's hot, we clamp it to the bed light so we have a nice breeze while sleeping.

Do you still have this setup?
I was looking at this on a Mojave. Suspension upgrade a must? What about brakes? Would you view this as a feasible setup on a daily driver?
I was going to use it primarily at dog even trips in the cooler months with some trips to national parks. I’d rather this than a tow camper

Suspension upgrade a must: yes IMHO. I don’t think the Mojave shocks are going to handle the increased weight tons better than my Rubicon. And the springs are way, way too soft.

Brakes: so far I haven’t seen a need. Stock is pretty good

DD: Mine with 37s and 2.5” lift in the rear comes to 7’9” at the highest point of the camper. This is too high for most parking garages. But not all. That, plus reduced MPG… your call

I’m with Cincinnati Ins and added a rider to the Jeep to cover and additional $15k

I just wrote my gladiator off after a collision with a moose. I had replacement coverage on the vehicle and because the camper was a permanent attachment they are replacing the whole thing even though it was just the awning that was damaged.
if your policy covers vehicle add ons and attachments you might be able to save some money.

I would love to see ALU-CAB make the regular canopy with this door or with bar doors like in this pic. I would throw away the tail gate in a heartbeat to get this kind of door

So build a set, can’t be that hard, why wait for the OEM?
