My 2023 Willys Gladiator has a strange habit of randomly (as in maybe 1 in a 100 time) having the radio demonicly possessed. Typically the scenario is I get in the truck and start her up ... wait for the radio to do its thing then connect my iPhone. Go to play my podcasts or music and the sound only comes out the phone. Important to note that I wait for the radio to say it's ready because in the beginning I'd connect the phone while the radio was starting and that is a recipe for frustration.

For whatever reason nothing appeases these demons and the entire trip is without truck speakers until, and only until, I have exited the vehicle for at least 15 minutes.

So I searched all over for a way to "reboot' the radio without having to exit for an extended amount of time. The information I've found involves holding buttons or combos of buttons down for a certain count and none of them restart my radio. Also, restarting the phone doesn't correct the problem either. Again, it's very rare but also very annoying when it occurs.

Anybody got a trick they've come across? Picture of the offending electronic device attached.

The only way to reboot the head unit, that I'm aware of, is to pull the fuse for it or to disconnect both batteries.

Sounds like a phone issue. Latest update performed? Also, on the phone, under bluetooth settings, tap the circled I and select car stereo or whatever it is.

Yeah, definitely not the phone. Usually I'm headed to work so limited time to f around with it. On one occasion I had some time. Phone was connected to other blue tooth devices but the radio wasn't even showing up as a source. Unplugged phone, turned off bluetooth, rebooted, turned on bluetooth and was exactly the same. Got my wife's phone (newer iPhone than mine) and was the same. It's like the bluetooth wasn't broadcasting.

Turned truck off and went inside for 30 minutes. Came back and magically the radio bluetooth was showing up. Same phone never once gave an issue with my 2017 Chevy radio.

That's kind of what I am beginning to think. Not really practical to pull the fuse while driving :/

People Work?
Not likely related, but you know how the screen loses your custom icon positions sometimes?
Toggle it off by pushing the volume button and then back, and they come back to your settings.

 I have to laugh....because... My previously owned 2016 GMC Canyon was possessed sometimes also. Even my husbands BMW gets glitchy sometimes.

Welcome to the world of 'new fangled tech'.... It's great when it works but isn't perfect.

I have a '24 Mojave with wireless carplay. It works pretty good...... with its share of "What's it doing?"

I have a similar issue with mine. I don't have my phones connected via bluetooth and only have them connected to the wireless carplay adapter but sometimes they connect visually but the sound still comes out the phone speakers. I added in these USB Switches and when it happens I just flip the switch off and then back on again and it resets the carplay connection and resolves the issue and when I turn the vehicle off I also flip the switch off and it cuts power to it to stop my phone from trying to connect to it for the next 40 minutes while the USB ports have power.

I haven’t experienced that one before. Hope I don’t 👍

My radio has done this like 3 times on me before, about once a year it seems. Last time it did it was because of my phone... had a call from someplace and their robo system called my phone twice simultaneously. So while the phone got it sh$t together for a split second it sent both calls to the head unit, the call I didn't answer got stuck on "hold". Not the phone, the phone was fine and even turning it off didn't reset the head unit. But the head unit still thought it was connected to my phone and on hold. Refused to shut off even if I turned off the truck. Eventually like after 45 minutes driving it did a pop and reset the radio. All was good after that, just seemed like I found a bug with the phone connection that it didn't know how to handle.

I feel the general consensus is that the glitches in the matrix will occur randomly and there’s not much to do except wait out the gremlins.

Wonder if wiring up a toggle switch to cut power to the radio would be a worthwhile endeavor 🤔

With the head unit touching a lot of settings, wonder if turning it off while driving would mess with things. Maybe not as I've seen it do a reset while driving and the truck didn't freak out.

But curious if its even a good idea to have a switch to force a hard off?

Anyone pull the fuse and drive it around with the head unit disabled and not have issues?
