Are trans same across the JT trims?

Directly from the Gladiator Product Info documentation on a 2022 Gladiator. Not commenting on whether or not they are mechanically the same, but they have different model numbers....and that's putting aside the manual trans altogether.

Edit: Maybe a more accurate way to say it is that all automatic, gas Gladiators (up until this point) use the same transmission.

There used to be 3 transmissions. An aisin manual, a ZF850 (chrysler licensed/built) for gas, and a ZF875 (ZF built) for diesels.

With diesels gone and manuals gone, there is now only one transmission, the ZF850 (chrysler licensed/built).

So the answer to your question is: yes, there has never been a difference between trims. There used to be a difference depending on drivetrain choices, but that was not dependent on trim (ignoring the fact that the Mojave was never optioned with the diesel, and thus never could have gotten the ZF875)

Yes, they are the same three transmissions regardless of trim on previous year models, and as noted, now we're down to just the 850RE.

Thanks to all. I may be starting a trail only build later this year, will be looking for most basic JT I can find to avoid paying for things I'm going to scrap anyhow. So wanted to be sure I'll find the same 850 I have currently and really like.

Transmissions may be the same, but the transfer case may be different. You may want a Rubicon transfer case for a particular build as opposed to a sport transfer case. Depending on your build you may not even want the Rubican transfer case.

I swapped transmissions on a Crown Victoria many years ago. I looked into that same question back then. I saw a few different part numbers but all fit my Crown Victoria and were available at the time my car was built. I swapped the transmission and everything worked fine except for the speedometer. I swapped out the tail shaft gear from the original transmission. It didn't even fit! After some research, I did find out that the transmissions were basically the same with the exception of the tail shaft diameter. Police , Taxi and Sport had a larger shaft, tail housing and speedo gear. Who knew?

So good question to ask, before doing all that work.
