They must be in cahoots with those 90s GM engineers that thought it was a cool idea to put the starter in the fucking lifter valley of those shitty Cadillac Northstar engines.I owned a 2013 WK2 Grand Cherokee for 10 years. Only had two issues with it. The OEM battery gave up the ghost after 8 years which is amazing for a OEM battery and the oil pressure switch. That took me 6 hours to replace it. I'm sure the engineers had a round table to brainstorm how to make it the most difficult task to change a $60 part.
My previous '21 Sierra AT4 Duramax had the timing belt in the back. I imagine that would have taken about six months of labor to replace by me.They must be in cahoots with those 90s GM engineers that thought it was a cool idea to put the starter in the fucking lifter valley of those shitty Cadillac Northstar engines.
Me: Hey I'm doing a starter replacement on a Caddy I need intake gaskets.
Parts guy: What?
Me: Just fucking get it.
Oh yeah don't even get me started on 80s/90s SAABs. Omg their engines were mounted backwards. All the accessory belts were between the engine and firewall. My previous '21 Sierra AT4 Duramax had the timing belt in the back. I imagine that would have taken about six months of labor to replace by me.

Yup I remember those shitty torque-to-yield bolts and their threading problems. An Engineer will walk past 50 virgins just to F a mechanic.
@Greg_L I worked at Cadillac back then. Whomever designed those head gaskets was a joke too. You would replace the gasket, start torqueing the head back down in their fancy method and all of a sudden 'POP', the head bolts would pull out of the block. GM provided thread inserts for that repair...which also sucked and pulled out. Jasper Engines had the right thread repair inserts, so we bought from them. Eventually GM agreed to pay for those inserts because it was cheaper than multiple come-backs and new blocks.

I came here to mention the Northstar starter and you threw out a SAAB. Everything about those cars was weird. But I still loved them.Oh yeah don't even get me started on 80s/90s SAABs. Omg their engines were mounted backwards. All the accessory belts were between the engine and firewall.
It wasn't phonetically accurate, but we used to say SAAB stood for "Son Af A Bitch".I came here to mention the Northstar starter and you threw out a SAAB. Everything about those cars was weird. But I still loved them.
Fairly certain I still have scars on my knuckles from a 900T. So yes, this tracks. It wasn't phonetically accurate, but we used to say SAAB stood for "Son Af A Bitch".
