Reasons for keeping it, right now, are a combination of not minding the system on the whole, not wanting to have to leave any battery leads taped up underneath, and having the avengers button just being a waste of space inside once deleted.

Eventually the truck will reach an age where I don’t mind cutting up the wiring harness and maybe converting the avengers button into an aux. switch or something but we’re no where near that yet 🤷‍♂️
Just an FYI, whether you have the aux or you delete it, the "avengers button" will still be needed. The system doesn't automatically stop using ESS when you do the delete, it just can't tell the aux is gone. It still thinks the system is intact. That means ESS will still run, just with 1 battery. So it doesn't turn that button into a "waste of space". Quite the opposite, you really need it.

When my Auxiliary went tits up in my old Overland I did the delete by pulling the appropriate fuse and tying back the offending cables. Jeep wanted over $350 to replace my batteries with the same ORM junk that lasted all of 2 years.

So I did some research and I bought a big Optima yellow top dual duty battery that allowed me to still do the start stop thing if I wanted and also run accessories for hours without worrying about a regular battery dying on me.

The setup worked splendidly for me (and somehow my mileage improved which I never understood), and it cost me ZERO extra $$$. As soon as my new Mojave’s battery crap out I’m doing exactly the same. I never touched the old dead auxiliary battery. Probably still there after I traded it in.

I may just disconnect my aux once I pre-emptively swap the main battery. Save myself $160 + tax.

I have some non-adhesive heat shrink that would be perfect to seal off the offending cable eyelets and set to the side - but still removable to return it back to stock for some reason...

I'm already programmed to press the ESS button every time I get in 😄

My decision was based on money and quality. Did I want to invest over $350 and get the same crappy OEM batteries that didn’t last long enough or would I be better off with a top of the line dual use battery that would run my accessories (radio, StarLink mini and such) through a long lunch on the trail and still have enough punch to work the way a battery should when I sparked up my Jeep again. It’s also nice to run your lights as looooooong as you need them to set up camp at night with the engine off and know you’re not ruining you battery. And living in the desert my ESS basically never kicks in because the AC is always working to cool down the cab or the heating system is working to keep the temp up in the winter. It’s almost a surprise when the stars align and the Jeep shuts down at a light 🤣

To me it was a no brainer decision and I sacrificed nothing. I literally used a roll of the same cloth tape Jeep uses to tie the extra wires back and if you looked under the hood it looked totally unmolested.

Good idea on the cloth tape. I actually have a roll of that in my electrical kit too.

OK, what is the 'avengers' button? I deleted my aux and have not missed it at all. But I don't know what the button is...

Yeah, I went through the fender liner as well.

I LOL'ed at the Avengers button! That's some funny shit. Now I can't unsee it.

I pulled the positive lead from the aux up through and dropped it on the main battery. The negative is zip tied and taped off where the aux batter used to live.

Theoretically I could still use stop/start off the one main battery but my Tazer has disabled that too. No cutting of anything FWIW.

Tessa tape is the Bee’s Knees!!! I have a 5 pack in my Amazon cart waiting for me to push buttons now. I have about 5 layers left on my last roll. 😢

100%. I used a couple rolls of it on my wiring/subpanel project. Stuff is awesome.

little button with the A and a circular arrow around it next to the radio mute button.

So that’s what it’s called! I got it from a friend who’s a real car buff and rebuilds antiques. The stuff is great.
