I have the vasic radio in the Sport version and it is terrible. The volume dial doesn’t work until the car has been running for 2 minutes. The clock will be five minutes off in a week. It’s so slow to register that you pushed a button. Unreal.
At least you saved good money not getting the "upgraded" radio!

Is yours a 21 OP? Just curious, I haven't seen the volume knob issue or slow response.

My only complaint is that it doesn't always auto pair my phone over BT and I have to re-pair occasionally.

There's a TSB to fix the clock. TSB 08-017-21

My 8.2 unit has to be unpaired and re-paired once in a while and if I get a new text it won't give me so much as an alert. Phone calls come through but it keeps wanting to update/grab contacts from my phone as if it's never seen my phone before. So I remove my phone and pair it again and it's fine for a few weeks or months.

Pretty much agree with you. Just the 5.0 radio is in a league of it's own in terms of suck in my opinion.

If was an audiophile I would say aftermarket also.
It would appear, that the 5" radio is history. Base Sport models now come w/ the 7" unit.
With good, full function aftermarket kits available now, at fairly reasonable cost, there's no way I'd spend more than $400 on a 7" upgrade.

Going against the grain here...I have the 5.0 and I'm pretty happy with it other than the small display for the backup camera...everything else it totally serviceable for a basic setup...
I had a wrangler with the 5.0 once and I will never buy another Jeep. Actually I agree, I have the 8.4 now and even though I like it more than the 5.0 I would rather spend the bucks on something else, I'm fine with my cell phone for everything I need.

That 5" radio was an old dog though. Our 2018 compass had that radio. It's time for them to kill it. It's basically an entire generation behind technologically. I'm surprised they aren't replacing it with another small screen, though.

My 5" is basically decent. Occasionally laggy at startup but that's the exception and not major. But the clock does lose time like it's got a hole in it. This TSB when I look it up seems to list JL but not Gladiator (I know that they are basically the same esp. as far as radio and related wiring) - has anyone succeeded in getting a dealer to perform this TSB for a Gladiator? Thanks!

Good thing the 7" is now standard on even the basic sport trim level.

Only on Sport S and above, Sport/Willys Sport retain the 5"
I just chose a 2022 basic sport with hard top, tonneau cover and bed liner and it comes standard with 7"
It's a Sport, not Sport S so it appears that for 2022 the 7" is the standard radio
