So my Jeep sits alot. It's a 2020 and I have just over 11k. It's my fun/hobby car so I learned with these situations to use a good battery tender. I have one installed as I always have on other cars simply on battery neg and positive and away we go.

I know the aux battery is probably dying from age/use - but is not having the tender hooked up this way - the proper way in these new vehicles with ESS and aux batteries?

It has happened a couple of times now. Battery tender shows fully charged. I go to start and it acts as if the main battery is dead. I have to in turn use a jump pack to get started. Spod screen shows between 12-14v at any time..so I am figuring its the aux battery draining or going bad..

Appreciate any advice.

Pull both batteries, have them tested and replace as needed.

Depending on the age of your vehicle you can probably just delete the aux and be done with it.

It's time to replace both batteries. The average life expectancy of batteries in the JT is about three years. Keeping them charged has helped them last longer, but it's replacement time.

The charger shows the batteries as full, because it's given all they will take. The Main Battery is failing. If it was okay, it would start without the jump pack. If it's not failing the startup test, the Aux Battery is okay, but probably just barely.

For future reference, your battery tender should be connected to the positive side of the main battery and to the negative cable attachment to the IBS and NOT directly to the main battery negative terminal. This will keep both batteries charged.

What is the “IBS”?

CCA's Matter!

Pull your batteries, charge them, take them to your local Auto Parts store.

Most will do a load test for free.

A bad battery can show full voltage.

Amps are what count.
