Update on my prototype (already severe things I want to change...but key thing is that it works with the OEM Tonneau...). The tent goes overboard by around 29"...if/when I put a rear tire on the rear bumper it should be OK...however, I would REALLY prefer IF ONLY AT Overland does a 180 flip forward tent that replaces the OEM hard-top as they used to have back with the JK...that would be ideal and the rear RTT can be a 2 person one then for when all 5 of us go...

Does it work with the Mopar trifold hardtop tonneau?

NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! Great idea to get that rear vertical tube all the way back to that corner! I swear i've seen other's rack designs where its a good 10" in front of where yours is, maybe more. What wasted space/opportunity.

Thanks man - appreciate it. I definitely think the same...the corners are the strongest points, and the time/effort saved from missing that corner vs. the gain/strength/length generates doesn't make sense!

Not sure - but it works with the OEM Mopar soft tonneau...and it doesn't "protrude" that much out...

Rack is being testing this weekend...I know the "humongous" iKamper isn't appealing to the eye but this is a test, and we are a family of 5 so wife + 3 kids (8, 5 and 2) sleep in the tent, while I have a mesh low bed thing I'll put in the bed below and sleep on it. Kinda perfect combo for the handful of times we go all 5 of us.

The workmanship is pretty great...we used 1.5" tube that is FIA approved for raid vehicles here (under a certain weight class) so this is the best tubing in town (no Chromo stuff a la KOH...), and it it was bent nicely and doesn't protrude out..the main section closer to the cab is very strong and it all lies on a single plate from one end to the other.

We incorporated a toilet awning on the driver side ("dirty side") where we will have access to a gas water heater and 80L of fuel that will be in the bed along with a 6LPM pump. Once we install the 3" RK suspension and the 35" tires we should gain 4-4.5" of extra height for the toilet tent for even more privacy (currently touching the ground at full extension).

We will add a gusset at the tube/plate meet-up for further strength, and we'll weld a couple of areas that were not welded once we disassemble for powder coating. we added a small drain on the inside corner where the tonneau rolls in...might make that bigger, but in Dubai, the weather is relatively dry.

We followed the internal curvature of the cab...wasn't much but I think we saw 3-5 degrees all in...some thing we'll add before finalizing and powder:
1. mount for sand flag driver side on top of flat plate where tube meets...there's a nice spot for it there
2. simple mount for the water heater to hang alongside the toilet tent when in use
3. amber LED strip under the tent in a U shape to circumvent the cab for comfortable lighting at night (will use one of the 2 AUX low amp switches inside)
4. will add two reversing work light under the tent on the rear-most crossmember
5. need to figure out how to mount my two tables under the tent to free up space inside the bed (maybe a racket strap to hang the chairs as well like a hammock?)
6. need to mount the plate for the quick release for my pelican first aid kit
7. need to figure out how to install MaxTrax on the passenger side with a fold down aluminum table that can be use don the clean side under the iKamper when it folds open.

Any other suggestions? for the eye-sore, either we will go with a 3 person RTT and 2 sleep in the bed, or we'll stick to the iKamper and put the spare tire and fuel Scepter cans on the back?

Thanks!

I love seeing people get custom work done on their rigs to end up with exactly what they want/need! Kudos for taking the plunge!

14" Voodoo Rack with Tuff Stuff tent. I had a full rack on my previous truck, and having the tent mounted on a half rack definitely improves the ride quality.

Love your set-up. I just purchased the Gobi Rubicon too and have been racking my brain on which height bed rack I want. your comment on the handling sure helps. I was looking at the JcrOffroad version full height and 1/2 height. Does the Voodoo come with the side panels you have your rotopax and other goodies mounted on?

I will post some better pics. Got the max modular aluminum 14 inch built and picked up the Tepui tent today. Need to wait 2 weeks till I have time to build up the tent and get it mounted. I think we will try to have the ladder off the back for a 3 day country music festival this summer. Spots are narrow in the terrace camping at the Gorge

I finally decided on the 10” Voodoo with the tonneau brackets which gave it the height I was looking for. Looking at a few RTTs next. The rack was a tight fit on the Mopar rails.

Does the 10" top bar end up in the rear view mirror? My 14" does not.

It's directly in the middle. Doesn't bother me but I do have to adjust every time I look back.

Do you think there is enough room to mount Maxtrax and Rotopax items on the side panels of the rack with your configuration? I'm trying to decide between 10 and 14 inch racks....would prefer the lower one. thanks
