I may get the side eye for this reply - but after having a bed rack to now a Venturous Ozark topper, I would never go back to the bed rack.

Bed racks look cool - but they don’t keep gear safe from the elements or from folks wanting to steal gear. They also are getting to be ridiculously expensive.

You can run a few with a tonneau cover - but it got annoying trying to haul larger items for certain trips and activities. In the end - they aren’t as practical as a topper.

I don’t have a horse in this race - but I would seriously consider looking at the topper I mentioned. Not only is it super light weight - it’s very durable :

The Venturous Ozark's weight-carrying capacities leap off the page even more than its base weight, coming in at a staggering 1,500 lb (680 kg) when static and 750 lb (340 kg) when driving. Those figures roughly double the all-steel RSI SmartCap's 770-lb (350-kg) static and 330-lb (150-kg) dynamic load ratings. The Ozark also bests the 700-lb (318-kg) dynamic rating of the steel RLD Design canopy and comes the closest we've seen to the 800-lb-rated (363-kg) tubular aluminum-framed Go Fast shell, which launched as the "strongest truck topper ever" just a year ago."

How much weight can you put on top of that bed topper? I've seen some rigs tipped on about a 45° angle where a topper would have crumbled under the weight of a roof top tent.

What’s the cost of the topper? I’m not gonna fill out all that and get hounded daily just for a quick price.

I ordered my topper at the end of July last year, and received it in October. I paid about $4.4k for a few extra options (matte black finish, roof rack/cross bars, and "win-doors").

I believe the base standard price is around $3500.

I used to have a KBvoodoo rack, and it served it's purpose for a while. I thought that the rack would be continuously updated/upgraded by the manufacturer - (enclosure panels, rear gate/hatch, etc) but those never happened. Instead they released a newer model rack with some of those upgrades, but by the time you added up the price for the rack + parts - it came near the cost of topper - which is why I went that route.

Again, everyone uses their JT for individualized purposes - and it made it clear to me that a bed rack wasn't very practical in the long run.

Four and a half grand for a bed shell? That's more than half way to a full sleep-inside pop-top overland camper shell. I think a base model Harker starts just under $7K and Topo is around that same price point. With those you can at least sleep inside, even if you just got the most basic shell to kit out yourself.

100%! I have left reviews every place I can, I started using their marketing hashtag for this type of post, and made reports with bbb and NHTSA.
It’s effective. I’m in the market for a half height bed rack and because of you, I’ve eliminated Fishbone as a potential bed rack for me.

It's still $7k vs $4.5k for a topper. Sure yours has a tent to sleep on. I'm not knowledgeable about topper tents and how much they cost.....

I was never comparing my bed topper to yours. I was giving my two cents regarding why bed racks didn't work for me - and in the long run they weren't as practical when it came to hauling gear and items while also keeping gear dry/safe.

Apparently they just redesigned the side panels and I'll be one of the first to get the new design. Fingers crossed they ship next week.
