Redline's parent company seems to be Phillips 66, so they probably have the smart kids working it.

IMHO, Redline is equivalent to Amsoil in terms of how they design and formulate their boutique fluids. They will do what they claim. Value proposition of either is debatable.
The way I look at it is.. what we have is a transmission built and designed around a certian fluid it runs the best on that fluid. The introduction of any other fluid wether certified by in house labs that it meets specification -X is taking a chance that it was more than likely met the cert in an outhouse .
Engine oil specs have been easier to meet as they have been doing them for a long time.
Now as I swear by Amsoil in my engine.
I also swear by Chrysler 8&9 speed in the transmission.

The way I look at it is that there is nothing special about ZF 8/9 speed fluid and other fluids will suffice and is only an issue to worry about if in warranty to remove finger pointing.

Me - the fluid isn't that different in price, it's recommended, and I know I can't go wrong.
So there's no "motivation" to switch.
I guess I need a logical reason to.
I can't find any.
(and there's a lot of details we don't know about the differences - only the pour points and other simple stuff)

"Guarantee" - don't make me laugh.

They can say anything until called out. Do they have that documented?
I'd be shocked to see a company like ZF actually say "your fluid is hereby approved".

Still can't understand the resistance to using ZF fluid, but it's your truck.

Has anyone actually stated why other fluid is better or why they believe it is, when the spec'd fluid is tested by the transmission manufacturer, who worked with the fluid maker to come up with a blend for that specific type of transmission, and it's tried and true.

Is it a "just because I can"
or
Because it's cheaper
and if the latter - really?
Can´t argue with the logic. But I can say this. Red Line is very reputable as a high performance synthetic lubrication company. I don´t see any reason to think they would lie or make a claim that is not true. I´ve also used their products many times, in many applications over the years, including in my JL, with good results.

I have high confidence in that company. They have been around awhile and are owned by Phillips 66. As far as comparison to Valvoline, in 2024 Valvoline had revenue of about $1.6 billion vs. Phillips' $144 billion. Not knocking Valvoline. I have nothing but respect for Valvoline. (I wouldn´t worry about Max Life ATF, either, from what I have read.) Just sayin´ that Red Line has no disadvantage to Valvoline in terms of R&D resources.

I have time to think about it. I´m a couple thousand miles away from the change. But one of the reasons I´m leaning toward the PPE pan is so that I can easily drain and refill without removing the pan. I would probably change it again in 1 year. I may yet go with the Mopar fluid. They cost about the same. I just like the stats I see on the Red Line. I will probably wind up ordering the Mopar fluid, in the end, with a quick click on Amazon. But I´ve been reading Ram and Dodge forum posts and I haven´t found any that claim to have any issue with Max Life or D6. (There seem to be far more users of Max Life.)

One thing of which I am VERY confident. New Max Life or Red Line D6 is better than the ZF fluid with 60k miles on it.

Btw, warranty is up at 60k, so I´m not worried about that.

Anyway, it is just food for thought. I appreciate the advice, for sure. Nobody here has ever steered me wrong.

Question....my son-in-law and others have said they refund you money for sending back used fluid. He told me he gets nearly a full refund. That makes no business sense to me, at all. What´s the story behind that?
I think the business side of it is that few people actually follow through on it. But they do follow what they say.

That's a fact for rebates and other mail-in things. My son studied this in college (and his wife in business management also touched on this)
How can companies like Microsoft offer huge "rebates" or discounts and that sort of thing?
Because no more than 20% ever follow through, and the more complex it is, the fewer will go for it.
It looks great, it sells product, it's pure psychology - but the business knows, most will have intentions that they never follow through with.

It's like trip insurance I bought one time - got sick on the ship, went to the doctor, was prescribed medicine and so on, and the trip insurance would cover it. That's after you completed a complex 5 page form, went to your own doctor and had them sign off on it and so on - I said SCREW THAT CRAP. Never again. It was more hassle than the money I'd maybe have gotten back. They knew that

A company can guarantee all they want, looks good on paper, attracts customers - hey, they guarantee it! But the hassles involved? They know many customers will just move on instead of fight the long fight.

I will say that FCP doesn’t have a complex bunch of hoops to jump through. It’s pretty straightforward. I used them a fair amount when I had my X5M.

Yeah and when your way over 60k as I was at 130k and then change the transmission I think 🤔 to me logic says go back with the OEM fluid again.
