I've been watching this thread for a while planning to do the installation during the winter and I came across a cheaper microphone that look exactly like the one on the Grand Cherokee for much cheaper and it seems the plug would be Plug and Play here's the link

https://www.mymoparparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-audio-microphone-68335415aa

Anyone tried this one??
That would save some time not needing to splice any wires. Still need to secure it to the panel. Have you verified the connections are the same?

I've been watching this thread for a while planning to do the installation during the winter any one tried the microphone used for the ucconnect, as you might know there is 4 microphone in the Jeep 2 are used for phone calls and the 4 all together are used for voice command ... the one for voice command look like the one in the CG and are said to be noise cancelling. heres the part number

https://www.mymoparparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-audio-microphone-68335415aa

i already have the CG one waiting for the swap but i ordered the other one aswell

ill test and update later
I am aware of the mics in the panel above the mirror - where are the other 2 located?

The ones I swapped out in the overhead definitely took care of the phone audio out problem. As far as the other 2, IDK where they are.

I just changed out my microphones with the noise canceling ones from Mopar. I called my wife while driving 65mph and she said it still sounds the same. Guess this isn't going to work for me.

I changed both microphone, its better then the original but if your running MT tires it ill still pick up ambiant noise in the cabine... I tried active noise canceling microcrophone and it still pick up road noise. The thing that helped the most was when i changed the carpet to armorlite. but thats a 500$ fix and it wasnt for that reason that i changed it but its a nice bonus !

Was the mic you installed plug n play or did you have to splice? Also what is CG you refer to in your post? I did the other swap where you splice in my wife’s gladiator but was wondering if the part you post was just a direct plug in swap.

Just a guess, maybe he means GC or Grand Cherokee. Those have good microphones, besides being quiet inside, the sound through the mic is very good.

Well another one joins the club! 21 sport that came with the 7in radio non alpine. I upgrade to 8.4 about a year ago and everything worked fine until today...the day I get it back from dealership to replace the third brake light (irony?)

I don't think a dealer will touch the issue because the 8.4 isn't tied to my VIN and I know they will try to update the radio (from what I read they can't update the radio because the radio isn't tied to the VIN) and then tell me I'm SOL

Seems like best possible fix will be the mics? Any long term update?

I agree. Hello Jeep Cares. I found a fix .

My 2023 has the same problem. Has anyone used the mics from Joey on eBay?

@JeepCares I just picked up a brand new 2023 yesterday. I am having this issue. I should not have to be opening trim panels to put a foam windsock on a mic the second day of owning this. Is there a fix for this yet? TSB, recall...anything?

I just did the fix as @Sleighman had written up in this thread. Works perfectly. All of listeners on the other end said "It definitely sounds like you are in the car, but I can hear you fine." This was with the hard top on but both front windows open going 50 mph. That's a huge improvement and a win in my book. Not sure why FCA won't use similar mics for all of their vehicles.

The new mics are much larger and don't fit flush against the opening, however, it really isn't necessary. As long as the mic opening is close, you are good to go. I only ordered a pair of the new mics and then spliced them in using the old connectors. Red to red, Black to white. Soldered the ends and covered in heat shrink tubing. Used some grey duct tape to insure they didn't move when off-roading.
I realize that this is an older thread... but I have a few ?'s...

What is the part# for the upgraded mics ?

Are they the same ones as @Sleighman used ?

Also, I like how you took the time to splice in... saved some $$... devils in the details, they say.
BUT
Instead of taping the mics in place, do you think that they could have as easily been "hot" glued or secured by another method besides tape ?

@Sleighman any thoughts ? Part#'s ? Everything still working out ? I have a 22 JTRD and everyone says I sound like I'm in a tornado... and with the cabin noise, if both the caller and I are bluetoothing ... its a real shit show. Sometimes I get so frustrated I just tell them. I will call them when I get home or parked .

Thanks for researching this !

Which is what I can’t figure out. Why not use noise reduction mics in the JT also? I drive with the freedom panels off and all windows open and the person on the other end can still hear me well enough to converse. That wasn’t always true with the original mics with the windows up. ?
I'm a little late to the game... but I'm thinking Jeep didn't bother to put noise canceling mics in because they figured with the doors off, windshield down and the roof removed it wouldn't matter ...?

But they forgot about the other 95%.... you know the a.k.a. mall crawlers who do "life" in their Jeep, not just rock crawling. ?

Getting ready to fix mine soon... very annoying for sure.

I finally got around to installing my mics (and the sun visor bracket) last weekend. Much appreciation to @Sleighman for being the test pilot and sharing his experience. I am much (much) lazier. I laid the two mics side-by-side and leaving a little extra length cut the wires. I joined them with two crimp butt splices and covered the whole thing with a piece of heat shrink tubing. I left the foam rubber on and glued the mics in place. It doesn't eliminate the road noise, but it is much (much) better. So for about a $25 and one-hour investment, my Gladiator BT phone system is now useful. It is unfortunate that Jeep and @Jeepcouldntcareless won't acknowledge and solve the problem, but this is among many similar issues, such as the sun visor. Fortunately, there are resourceful owners who will share their knowledge.
Do you have part numbers for the mics ?
Also, what type of glue did you use ? I was thinking hot glue ?
Thanks
