I'm a little lost on your point. I expressed an opinion on the value of learning to use your mirrors and the provided backup camera as opposed to leaning out an open door. Thanks to all for the responses.. also will be investigating the wiring pins .. Frankly, I have had enough of the "Big Brother Watch Over Me" being a "Boomer" we grew up and lived without "Big Brother Gov."

Most likely it didn't have anything to do with "Big Brother Gov" watching over you. The Anton Yelchin family sued Fiat and settled out of court.

While we love to blame "Big Brother" most "safety" features/changes come from companies tired of being sued for unsafe products. It's cheaper to add a "feature" (that some many like and other don't care about either way) then pay legal fees, etc. Especially after it happened one time because then it's a "known" issue. At least they can say the tried to fix the problem and if someone disables the feature their family is Sxxx out of Luck.

Are you referring to the window lock switch? That has nothing to do with taking the doors off. It just keeps little kids from rolling down the windows in the back seat. To take the doors off, just take them off.

You will not find how to DISABLE it because you can't disable it. It's a safety feature and if they told you how to disable it, well, then it's no longer a safety feature! It would no longer be a fix ok with the feds if you tell people how to defeat it. It's like ESS - it's GOT to self-enable each time or they can't get CAFE credit for it.
The book DOES explain what it is and what it does. But people act so surprised when it happens.

We mention the manual because it explains or should explain that it exists and what it does.
No one reads the manual otherwise no one would be asking "what the hell is this and why is it doing this" plus all of the OTHER threads out there in this forum and other forums and places on the web that talk about this thing. We mention the manual because people talk about this like it's new or unique to their truck or think their truck is broken.

It's relevant because it tells what it is.
IT doesn't tell how to disable it (and for good reason)

Just to update, THANKS to all the respondents.. it has been very informational & helpful.
So all know: I searched the manual BUT I didn't connect "Auto Park" as the culprit. and for all regarding use of mirrors.. I drive box trucks w/o any camera and back into each delivery .. SUCCESSFULLY for 12 years now. Yes there is a reason from time to time that I want to open the door and continue to move.

I'm interested to know. For myself there are times the door just comes off so I can see a plow corner better but that's moving forward not backward. For the going backward I just use the power mirrors and jack them all around to see what I need.

And since we are discussing mirror credentials; straight internationals, straight mack dumps, straight mack cabover dumps, dumps with trailers, internationals with trailers, FEL, isuzu cabovers, nissan cabovers, lwb high cab dualie sprinters. At this point I think I can back up to or with a trailer better with mirrors than turning and looking.

LMAO, I did just think about it. The little X is on the windows only. For some reason in my mind I thought it was to turn off functions that had to do with the doors being off (like the light being on), I thought it was a special Jeep thing. Don't mind me people.

Hey just an important point here. That is a way to bypass it by installing a Gateway Bypass module. That is much different from disabling it. You can disable the seat belt chime with a known procedure. But you can't disable the AutoPark, you can only bypass it.

With enough work anything can be bypassed. Heck, even the seatbelt extender trick is a bypass. So let's check the attitude here, eh?

Oh and also, to set the record straight, this was already a recall before the Yelchin death. His death did not prompt this change, it simply accelerated the recall process:

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the manufacturer of the Grand Cherokee, was aware of 2014 and 2015 models having a high rate of rollaway incidents due to a gearshift design that could make it difficult for the driver to determine whether the vehicle was in park or still in gear. FCA had already recalled all 2014–15 Grand Cherokees for this concern in April 2016, but the software patch to repair the vehicles did not reach dealers until the week of Yelchin's death. Following his death, FCA accelerated the recall campaign and took steps to get the affected Jeeps repaired more quickly than originally planned.[42]

On August 1, 2016, the attorney for Yelchin's parents announced that they were planning to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler.[43] The dealership from which Yelchin purchased the vehicle stated that he was responsible for his own death, because he had allegedly "misused" and "modified" the vehicle. The dealer also asked to be removed from the lawsuit.[44] On March 22, 2018, it was announced that Yelchin's family and Fiat Chrysler had confidentially settled out of court.[45]

In June 2020, the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was recalled again for similar rollaway problems.[46]

So FCA knew it had potential to kill someone, was in the works on getting it fixed retroactively, but didn't get it out before someone died. We now know about all this but yet we're still trying to undo it? If someone dying from a known product issue doesn't show you the reason it's not designed to be disabled, I don't know what will. Sheesh.

And I don’t have an attitude. Could care less if you or the other idiot know the correct info or what can really be done.

When you understand tuning…you might realize that real tuners don’t even use the devices that you think are tuning devices. Don’t have the time or enough crayons to try to explain it to you… but just think on this one….when the doors are off…it doesn’t function….let that sink in for few days….google til your fingers fall off….take notes…and then @me with your response.

Also, I decided to test it out to confirm what I remembered. Door off and seatbelt unbuckled, mine engages AutoPark as soon as I remove my weight from the seat. I think you might be getting confused on how/why all this works.

I stopped reading this thread after the second page. This forum is becoming full of know it's all Karens/Boomers and Millienums or whatever the new snowflakes are call now. Funny yet annoying.
First thing I plan on doing is opening up the seat belt buckle to wire it together so the car thinks it's always engaged. It's free, prevents the car from bitching at me when I don't buckle up and will also disable this auto park nanny.
