I've had my Gladiator for 5 months, about 6000 miles, and it seems like the brakes kind of suck. I'm not a leadfoot, but it seems like either I'm always coming up to a stop too quickly, or the brakes are kind of grabbing.

I didn't have any issues in my two JKUs, and I've had Grand Cherokees for years with no issues.

Is anyone else finding that the brakes kind of suck?

I've thought the brakes on the Gladiator were pretty nice myself. I'd get yours checked out if I were you.

Mine suck for the first two stops on a cold morning. Then they are fine.
Not trying to be condescending here.
Did you go up in tire size or anything? Jut trying to eliminate variables. I know when I went to 33s performance changed and even more so after I added Black Rhino rims. You mention other Jeeps...

Thanks for the input everyone - 100% stock (unless you count a bed cover and trail rails)

No issues. I personally like how "grabby" my brakes are as the brakes (IMHO not too grabby and not too loose) on my Outback are way too soft and my Bolt is electric so I don't think I've ever actually "felt" the brakes when I have used the pad since it's pretty much stopped by driving in low gear. Having said that I wonder if if you keep everything stock the brakes are just sized for heavier duty than the stock weight? I have the steel bumper, winch, upgraded suspension, 35 inch x 12.5 inch tires/rims and a whole bunch of other stuff and the stock brakes feel absolutely perfect with just enough grabby and instant stopping power and just enough light-footed (gentle) braking "grab" for stop/go and low speed braking. Between all the add ons I'm probably 3-400 lbs over the stock weight.

I have always thought the brakes on new vehicles suck.
But then again they cut costs on what they can.

As for the Gladiator, I concur what has been said, when cold they seem to under perform, once warmed up they function fine.

I am running 35's so I know I have more mass to get stopped.

Like any other vehicle, I can't wait to get to 20,000 - 25,000 miles on it so I can justify replacing rotors and pads.

If you are having constant issues, take it in and have them go over it.

Maybe my trade in just had old brakes but I've been impressed.

Actually had to do a brake check during the test drive as I wasn't watching the light enough I guess... had to slam em... and came away thinking how great they were. Seriously thought wow, that was great stopping.

I agree with others... get your brakes checked.

If they are fine then, sorry, it's just you I think. Obviously mods change that. I'm talking stock.

I dunno.. thinking with that all said though... i dont really use my brakes to stop all that much. As weird as that may sound.

I drive a bit different, try to anticipate stops so I can just cruise in and let the truck slow itself down .... its rare I hit the brakes above 30 mph so maybe thats it.

Car and driver recorded the 70-0 braking at 197 feet for a Mojave, that is pretty horrible. My Sport 6MT feels rather lame also, pedal is rather mushy. Our trucks weigh north of 5k depending on options. Sport is the lightest at about 4600 and it also feels pretty sad, but I am coming from Honda hatchbacks and sport coupes. Not saying you don't have a mechanical issue though, good to get 2nd opinion on brakes.

It took me a little while to get used to the brakes also, because they do seem to "grab" when the truck slows to a certain speed. I found it kind of impressive actually, as in really good braking if you happen to be towing for example. I have learned to ease off the pressure on the pedal when coming to a stop so it doesn't grab like that. I have never thought the brakes were inadequate.

Brakes on my JT are better than any other vehicle I have driven.

That said, they're lasting only 50k miles of city/hwy driving with a light foot
