Mojave has a fake hood scoop. I wouldn’t own one for that reason alone. That said, don’t forget to look at your decision from the other perspective (fear & greed): fear. What would you be giving up from the Overland that you wouldn’t get on the Mojave?

I agree with the "Build it to your taste" crowd, When you take it out wheeling or driving to work/store make a list of the things you would like to upgrade. Try to make your mods in a way that you can do them individually but not interfere with the intended outcome. Don't do things twice. You will have built exactly what you need,

I have a 23 gladiator overland. It’s my first jeep. Always liked them but thought the price was too high. Well I noticed an offer for a 61 k overland for 45 k. I’m a fan of a good deal. Figured for the price. Why not. I bought it. Well to my surprise. It must have brought out the kid still In me. Well I love this thing way more than imagined I would. Well now I am
Thinking the way I use it. I should have got a Mojave. I assumed I would like the luxury feature more of the overland but now the Mojave is calling my name. Not sure if I’m going to act on it yet. But either way I’m enjoying this truck. Did some light trails and once again. Didn’t think I would but I’m all in now. Oh well maybe I’ll catch a desperate dealer that wants to give me an incredible trade deal. I have put 8 k miles on it in 3 months. I can only say. A truck comes in handy more than you may imagine
Unless you want lockers, keep the Overland and modify it. a 2 inch lift kit and 37" tires and a regear should give you everything you need.

I bought a 20' Overland for the exact reason early last year before all the discounts (42k/11.xk miles). During that snapshot in time, I would have spent at least 10-12k more had I bought a Rubicon. I too, had the same mentality, and going into my first Jeep, it was a no brainer despite my brother telling me to shell out for the Rubi...
Since then, I've put on a rear elocker, skids, gears, steel bumper and winch, Apex disconnects, Clayton lift, all new steering components, and of course wheels and tires, plus other smaller accessories. I should've purchased a Rubicon, but I ended up building mine; it has been able to tackle Jeep BoH trails, and the family loves it so I can't complain.

I was in a similar situation, but I kept it for eight years. I got a sport JKU thinking I could add this and that, but soon regretted it. I spent a ton of money on things I should have gotten in the first place, but I was able to pay as I went with a very small loan. I was going to get a JLU, but the Rubicon Gladiators had everything I wanted for 15k less than the Wrangler.

If you regear you can add lockers, it wouldn't add much to labor cost because they are in there anyway

then that’s the way I would definitely go. Why give up a truck you love.

I had a very short time to shop, but the Mojave’s I saw in December were 5-6k more expensive than the Rubicons, as stated above.
The MSRP on Rubicon and Mojave are exactly the same. Options are where you will see price difference.

Rubicon has two fake hood scoops. So what's your point. The Mojave hood looks better.

I'm not going to argue opinions on aesthetics, but my point, to answer your question, is as stated-- that I would never own a car with a fake hood scoop.

The only difference in building as opposed to getting something that's factory is if you want factory or aftermarket options.

I have a 2019 (2020) Overland. I now have 169,000 miles on it. I also have had it regeared and added lockers. I beat the crap out of it towing, hauling, offroading, and rock crawling.

Factory, for example, you have factory lockers. Aftermarket, you can have electric, air, mechanical, or a combo. And have it regeared while the diff is open, or replace the axle shafts, or trussed, etc. It's just what you want to work with.

If you think you may want a Mojave then start looking around to try and take advantage of all the deals. It doesn't hurt and a phone call doesn't lock you into anything, but it does give you peace of mind that you at least tried and figured out what was best for YOU. There's still plenty around on lots especially if you're willing to travel. Find one at the price point with the options you want and call. Go onto Truecar, Carvana, and Carmax to see what they appraise your Overland for to buy it from you. Then see what they dealer will give you for your Overland on trade. Just do the math and it will either make sense for you or not, deopending on how bad you want it and what you can realistically afford.

After almost two months of casually searching prices and researching trims, I ended up buying a Mojave a few days ago. I travelled 850 miles to get it. The dealer offered me $20k on trade for my wife's 2019 Chevy Traverse with 51k miles. It wasn't terrible, but I didn't want to not do my due diligence. So i reached out and Carvana offered me $21,300, Truecar offered $15,300, and Carmax offered me $23,400. I drove the Traverse 850 miles to where the Mojave was, sold it to Carmax, where I was in and out in under 30mins with bank draft in hand. Then they paid for an UBER to get my to the Jeep dealer, where I picked up my $62K Mojave out the door for $44k minus TT&L, which I will do myself. I specifically wanted to do TT&L myself to save some more money on the deal and not pay their fee. Plus I always find that when buying out of state dealers try and screw you even more so on bullshit fees, i.e. I owe $1275 in CO sales tax, but I had a dealership in IL tell me I had to pay them $5500 in tax, we went back and forth for a few minutes about it and they wouldn't budge, nor could they provide me an explanation, needless to say, that deal didn't work out, haha...

Good Luck in whatever you decide, but you're actuallly in a great position believe it or not...it's awesome car shopping when you don't HAVE to buy one, you already have a truck that you love, so your golden, just have fun breaking car salesman's balls and see what comes of it
