That’s pretty impressive! I wouldn’t expect that mpg while towing? Do you know if that’s typical?
Wait he is from Germany, what kind of gallon is he referring to?

US Gallon is 3.78L
UK Gallon is 4.54L

Since he is in Essen, this would make sense, that is UK Gallon, which also frequently gets reported as unit of measure on Top Gear

Kayak & RTT can work on the JT.

this look spretty much perfect, what kind of tack is in the back and which RTT? The rack on top is a bit narrow, but wider bars would fix this, to have enough clearance on the side. Hell might even able to carry 2 kayaks

Seems more F350/Silverado 3500/Ram 3500 dually or equivalent than anything for all of these requirements. My wife and I just pack a tent, cooler, and couple of sleeping bags. Wranglers and Gladiators do that well.

Ok maybe I'm dense, but I just don't understand why would I need a 1 ton truck to tow 4000lbs and maybe 1000lbs of people/equipment. It seems like utter overkill.

Like right now my wk2 does all this, except for the tent and only replacing it since it's getting old and it's a bit weak in the mountains, which I feel would be addressed by the better transmission alone.

Not sure if this is typical but I plan a longer trip beginning of November with trailer. Maybe I can confirm then.

Best which I achieved so far was 32 mpg and average is 27 mpg without trailer.

This is according to on-board computer but I think it's quite accurate.

And I am referring to US-Gallon.

And the car is bone stock Overland with the original Duelers.

Because on the forums people tell you that you need a 1 ton to tow 50 pounds, it's how every truck forum is.

I tow 3500 lb popup with about 8-900lbs worth of stuff\people on 39s regeared to 5.13 and get 10.5-12 mpg at 70. Plenty of folks towing 5000+ on the forums here as well. No the pentastar is not a towing champ, but between the 8 speed and high rpms it will get the job done reasonably well.

I have 8” Billie Bars over the bed, lets me use the Mopar rollup cover. RTT is the Roofnest Cóndor XL.

You’d be ripe for the diesel gladiator but towards its max with the combination of your payload and towing. Towing alone will be fine at 4000lbs, but the payload will be close to max or overwight, plus high altitude elevation.

6ft 6 is to tall for this cabin. I’m 6ft 1, and with the seat jackers it’s comfortable but at its max, my seat has been as far back as it goes since day 1. You’ll be sitting in the back seat for comfort. This is where I’d draw the line into the next size up.

Ram 1500 is where you need to be imo. Get yourself a diamond back bed cover with the rails and your good for the addons, and towing is 2.5x the gladiator with the 5.7.

You do not need the diesel 2500, I have one but tow 15,000lbs with it occasionally, unless of course you want to spend the extra money, then I’d say get one because they are fantastic trucks,

I am a HUGE diesel fan- literally only have diesels in the driveway.
A 10mile per day commute is going to fill the dpf with soot really quickly as the vehicle doesn’t even have time to get warm- let alone burn anything off.

The OP is around the eastern Sierras. If you’re in NV and considering deleting ??? diesel is an option.
If you’re in the people’s republic- no way.

Diesel meets all of your needs for your outdoor activities, however, I am willing to bet significant issues with driving habits like what you described for the daily.

With all your dimension requirements, I think the Gladiator would be a tight fit and not ideal.

Have you sat in a Gladiator or Wrangler to get a feel for your body size? I am 6'3" and feel like I am at the margins of comfort for it. I know tall people are different in that some are longer in the torso or legs so headroom or legroom play a different factor for comfort.

I had a skycamp RTT on a full rack while my brother has a half rack with the mini. We outgrew the large skycamp (fitting 4 and we pack light, kids are 8 & 6). My brothers was good for he and his dog or wife but not all 3. With a half rack the bed becomes hard to access. Heck it can be annoying with a full-size rack. Towed a utility trailer as needed but I think you’d be disappointed with the Glady given your reqs especially if adding a kayak into the equation.

I was thinking from a volume perspective rather than payload capacity. Those give some margin on power also. No worries

Full size truck will often get better mpg.

I have an F150 that gets about 19 mpg, the Gladiator gets about 16 mpg.
Agreed, my Ram 1500 4x4 Big Horn with the Hemi was getting 22 mpg hwy and about 18 regular driving. I'm lucky to get 14-15 mpg with my Gladiator. I miss the towing capacity for sure. On my recent teip to Kansas (16 hour drive) I was towing a 2500# trailer and was getting about 7 mpg on the rolling plains, let alone trying to make a steep incline, then it was closer to 5 mpg. Sounds like a full size would be the only alternative to what he needs unfortunately. Even then, it may not include all the "needs" listed
