Covid 19 is pulling ahead:
Flu season is hitting its stride right now in the US. So far, the CDC has estimated (based on weekly influenza surveillance data) that at least 12,000 people have died from influenza between Oct. 1, 2019 through Feb. 1, 2020
Coronavirus Deaths:17,226

Each bar is # of new cases daily in USA. This may be due to backlogged testing, could see 20-30,000 new cases daily in 3-4 days.

Albert Einstein said "Compound interest is the 8th wonder of the world." Same principle can be used with Covid-19, Its like a Pyramid Scheme, but instead of getting rich, you will get sick.....

Agree invest $$$ now. Think bottom of the V curve is ahead.

Think we will have a treatment cocktail known within 90 days (I read the France study), tho distribution and availability are the key to when it will help average person.

Very sad to read the news about person who died trying to treat himself with fish tank cleaner.

Thank you, I'll take my advice from the dude with his name on $100 bill:

The uncertainty of it is what really scares me, and the fact that being in my 30s and having young children, my family could have it and not even know. I know there is risk to us, but odds are I could do more damage to others then myself. I have a huge fear of passing it on to my parents who are in the high risk groups due to age and preexisting conditions.
I'm in the same boat brother! My dad is 72, overweight and has Diabetes, if he gets it, bye bye.

I work with age 55+ clients, and if they get sick, that's no good too. If I get sick, my family doesn't have an income. If I get sick and spread it to 10 people and they spread to 10 and they 10............ect. ect. Not good.

So i'm super cautious. I have a freezer full of deer/beef, a well in the backyard. As long as we still have electricity, i should be good for a long time, so i'm not planning to go to the grocery store for a LONG TIME now....

Thats good to know, though I did see a decent amount of people masked up sunday at the grocery store (but they could have been the ones hiding at home in their forts of TP). I think at times like checkout it is hard to keep that 6ft bubble.

I know what you mean. My parent live 2600 miles away from me....fortunately, I have two siblings who live close to them and are able to do their grocery shopping and pick up prescriptions. The best advice we've been given is to act as though you do have it regardless, and live like you are trying to keep others from getting it. It will help slow the spread util we get this thing under control.

Not yet but it's coming. I'm not getting into a panic over it or politics over it, but I would not suggest taking it lightly. A guys wife is on a ventilator because of it and she's was healthy before this, 28yrs old. If it hit close to home you would think differently about it. But I get it, if you don't see if happening first hand then it must not be. NC had 31 cases last Monday, over 300 as of a hour ago. No cure for it other than waiting it out and no way to know if there are any long term breathing affects if you get it. 3 people I know have it, one on a ventilator so I'm not going to take it lightly.

We can talk about it without talking about politics. There's another thread for that. This has nothing to do with politics, sure the flu has killed more, but this has just got started. Taking it lightly in the early stages is how more lives are lost. Just how I feel about it. I guess no right or wrong answer for it, I'm not an expert on it or do I want to get into a back and forth over it. Just sharing how it's affecting my life directly.
Look at Italy if you want to understand why we are doing this drastic measure. Yes people die every year from the flu, but the flu's death rate is less than 1% while this virus is 3%, that over 2% difference means the hospital will get over run, like in Italy right now, and our Dr. will have to decide who dies because they don't have respirators for everyone. You are obviously a Trumpster that believes non-expert, non-journalist, talking heads over scientist.
That's the thing, this virus is an ass kicker. with no immunity (yet), no vaccines, and its zoonotic. Everyone should be afraid right now.

Shoot New York City qualifies as one of the most infected countries at this point. And it is impossible to get testing still. There numbers are probably 4x what they are listing. These numbers are getting bad fast and people still think things are going to open on April first when a lot of the temp bans end. What an ironic date to set.

It is all so scary when you sit down and think about it. Even if you know you could get it without being sick at all (what the spring breakers think) the downstream effect is terrible.

You are lucky you have that much, I tend to shop with a costco mindset so am good for a while, but in two to three weeks there might not be any squirrels or rabbits left in my area.... lol

Yep thats the general consensus. I wish masks were more available from the general community health aspect of it. Glad to hear your parents have your siblings. I spent most of the day saturday running errands for me and my parents, it was fun though since I did it topless and doorless in the JT.

Thinking I'm not gonna catch it is dumb. I just stay rested, drink a lot of fresh water and be prepped to deal with a cold and get well by getting rest and staying home for a couple of weeks. Slow the F. down and read the books on the shelf is my plan !

Yea: I'd rather be dead than totally Blind !

Apparently heat kills it.

I just put the JT climate control in auto. It melted my face so I’m now immune.

okay I looked up zoontic, but only found Zoonotic Diseases.

So does Zoonotic mean it started from an animal to a person?

What about if I have Covid-19 and play with my dog, then somebody else plays with my dog? Can they get it that way?

Well for our sake, i hope you're right. But judging by the Daily Increase from the Johns Hopkin's map, Italy's new cases are declining from 6k per day, ours are still increasing per day and are at 10k.

This blurb from the daily show about Italy starting at 4:30ish is hilarious.
