I ran KC Slimlites on my cowl of my JKU and was impressed with them. I currently have them mounted on my front bumper of my JT because its nice to be able to fold the windshield down.

Also on that note the current Slimlites only come in a spot beam but I have messaged KC and they do a driving beam in the works for the Slimlites.

I will give another vote for Diode Dynamics. I run their SS3 PRO (flood) pods on my cowls. I also run SS3 PRO (SAE) in my front bumper with an SS 18" light bar too. In the rear I have their SS3 SPORT (flood w/ amber cover). I choose the PRO version up front because they are definitely brighter than the SPORT and this is where I want to have the most light. The rear SPORT lights are really just for backing up in the woods and helping with camp setup. I can't imagine how bright the MAX version must be :)

Top Reasons for Diode Dynamics:
1) Quality construction and controlled light output (8 year warranty!)
2) Price - almost every holiday DD runs 15% off and you can get free shipping when going thru Lightwerkz on orders over $75 (think money towards upgrading to PRO...ha)
3) Customer service - these peeps always pick up the phone and are very personable

I really like OEM parts if they’re made, so I went with the Mopar bracket and 5” lights. Couldn’t be happier! Great light output and an old school, flat fender Power Wagon vibe when side-mounted. Also don’t get in way of folding down the windshield. Old PWs are another truck I have a weakness for…
No that’s not mine pictured, but my son and I do have two that are all there, but in need of full resto. Still, I bought em back in the day and have less than $3500 in both. Good decisions to scarf before they got crazy…

So which is better and why? Amber or clear?

Debatable. Some say amber cuts smoke fog and dust better. I'm happy with my ambers.

I have the LED package and the lights themselves are bright enough for distance so I am leaning towards the amber to fill in the sides. Plus seems to be easier on the eyes.

Well just ordered these, Baja Designs Amber Squadron Sport Pair LED Driving/Combo.

I’ve always ran Rigid. I can’t say enough about their customer service. I’ve had 1 light go out in 10 years. It was out of a 6 pack rock light set. They did not make the color I had anymore, so to make sure I could match everything- they sent me 6 new lights 😲. I didn’t even ask, they suggested. They are all super bright. Never had any leak or have moisture. I’ve purchased 40+ lights over the years from them and only 1 rock light has gone out, pretty good rate.

The ones on my gladiator right now are the radiance, not as bright or as much distance but look good and have nice backlight.

Give me your suggestions on brand and size to run, mounted on the cowl. They range in price from cheap to OH MY GOSH! So let me know what you have and how are they doing.
I have just the generic Amazon specials. My cowl lights are basically for road sides/campsites when you need light and don't want to turn the truck every which way. The wash on the hood is a little distracting.

My main off-road extra lights are Auxbeam 7" up on the bumper. I have a 1/2 roof rack that I'm debating putting lights on. The rack sits back so far, so the lights have to be high enough to not be cutoff by the roof (or the softtop).

Update, these are the lights I went with after suggestions from the posts and online reviews. Baja Design Squadron Sports in the Driving/Combo in amber. Very bright in the daylight so will see about nighttime and adjusting them.

Thanks everyone for the information and help, appreciate it.

@Stitchedupseats. I’ve had numerous leds (auxbeam, Maximus-3 supplied leds, and a cheap random lightbar). They were all crap. Condensation issues, yellowing, and fading… all less than a year.

I went with rigid and never looked back. They… lasted years!! Even though my previous rigid setup got stolen, I replaced it with a new set minus radiance lights which was used not used at all…only the backlight effect.

Be sure to loctite and get tamper screws for your bolts. I always thought about doing it but never got the chance, until my DSS and radiance pods got jacked.
