So I went to the dealership this week to get a quote ordering a new gladiator, and came across something that didn't make sense to me.

When negotiating price, the salesman stated that he couldn't guarantee a firm price on the day of deposit. The final price would depend on what incentives are being ran at the time of pick up. To me that didn't make any sense, as the dealer could just order the jeep, then charge whatever they wanted when it arrived. If I didn't say yes, I guess they would just try to sell it directly to the public. After hearing that, I decided to do some more research on this, but came up kind of dry on the forums.

Is this a standard practice? I've called two more dealerships that also stated the same thing. There is a possibility that it could be less in the future (day of pickup) but I tend to doubt it with these things. Any information helps.

When your negotiating price, you negotiate the price without any incentives. Incentives come into play when you take delivery.

So if you buy one off the lot, whatever current incentives exist you can use. The dealership doesn’t know when your custom order will show up so they don’t know what incentives will be around when you take delivery. Incentives could be better when your truck shows up, they could be worse.

i would suggest comparing pricing to these dealers that are offering 6-8% below invoice (not MSRP) on this site. Incentives would come off those prices as well.

That's what I understood prior to walking in that day. Maybe I misunderstood the salesman, but I got the impression that they couldn't guarantee that price either (the 5-8% off, it was a dealer from this forum).
Color me dumb here, it's my first time buying new.

It would probably be best to clarify with them then. I can’t imagine what they meant was different from what you had previously thought. Maybe they just didn’t explain that clear enough.

You go off MSRP that is fixed and dealer gives you a price , off MSRP or invoice or whatever but you sign a contract with those numbers on it, and give a deposit that is the price, then the incentives or offers are what they are when Jeep comes. Rubicons and Mojaves don’t seem to get the big deal incentives like other models. I did go to Tread Lightly and joined for $100 and got the control number and discount, my dealer said that saved me an extra $475, so I did a tax deductible donation to a basically good cause and saved net $375. Just go in with the attitude I am not buying this today, and don’t, go somewhere else shop around ask us questions then go back and have fun, do not get stressed or caught up in the negotiation thing, it is just a Jeep, they make them everyday!........Jack

Thanks everyone for the information. I have one more question that I haven't been able to find anywhere...

What skid plates come with the base model sport? Is it just the engine skid plate?

Not to hijack your thread but I have no clue what "invoice" actually is. How would anyone every find it out. This is what my dealers have showed me and it is MSRP. So they keep trying to negotiate with me form MSRP and it is shit!. The current Dec2020 "employee discount for all" is the FFP number at the bottom. The additional email offers from Jeep can be added(subtracted) to that price. I am told all of these prices are at time of delivery. Fingers crossed if I order now, arrives in January, there will still be deals. Has anyone done better that those. If so how? How does this compare to "Invoice"?

All below invoice, there are dealerships that will order for you at 4,7 and 8% under the invoice price respectively.

So invoice in not called out on this? How do people say they are getting 7 below invoice if nobody knows what that values is?

I am at FFP and $1500 FCA bonus cash if my order comes before Jan 26.. Is that as good as I should expect?

Thanks

This ? Invoice on the POC sheet you posted is the FWP. Grab a calculator and you can then find out the percentage your saving under invoice.

This is true. My process was a bit confusing. We settled on a price, and he was able to take 4k off the "invoice". When it was delivered, there was a new incentive that took another 2k off or something ( can't remember). My $47,700 msrp Jeep ended up costing around $42k before tax+fees.

Now I also had a trade in that lowered it more, but that's what it would have actually cost me without it.

There is a sticky at the top of this forum section with the current Order Guide info. Gives the invoice pricing and MSRP. You have to do some basic math on your own of what your invoice would actually be based off the Order Guide.

As to actually how much "below invoice" you will get? That will depend on your dealer and how much hold back they have and how much that dealer wants to give it up to make a below invoice sale.

Like others mentioned, FCA driven rebates and incentives cannot be calculated until time of delivery and what is in effect then.
