2021 Gladiator Rubicon Sarge Green Ecodiesel
So I bought a 2021 ecodiesel gladiator (Sarge Green Rubicon, 34k miles) about a month ago. The dealer said I get a full tank of diesel and def when I got it, so of course I checked before I drove off the lot.

I've put about 1k miles of it so far and I've been checking the def gage every day trying to gage when id have to fill that up. It's still at 100%.
I just thought that 1k miles may not be using that much def yet since most of my driving is highway, or they just overfilled the tank. But I think it would have dropped at least 1% by now...

Was reading that the tank does take a while to register sometimes, but most people are saying this when its low and they fill it. Also read that the sensor and tank is all 1 piece so its a full replace not small fix.

Should i be worried? Get a service appointment before the 36k? I do have extended warranty just in case.

Edit: added a pic of the gauge from about 500 miles ago. Same look today, all of the other gauges show the gray bar at the actual level, I assume this is full do to completely gray.

Edit #2: ok, driving home from work I checked the gauge again, right as I turned away from the screen I noticed it was just slightly below the full. I bet they did overfill the tank. I just assumed it would have a % like the oil life gauge. I was wrong.

You have a photo of the gauge? Some mistake the 100% full display for the level.

I think there may be a level sensor calibration. Yours could be off. Or like you said, it was topped off and you need to drive it a bit more.

When I got mine, I thought it was low and the dealer topped it off, but I was just reading the gauge wrong. I don't pay close attention to the level, but whenever I do happen to check it every great once in a while (guessing, a thousand +/- mile intervals), it doesn't seem to move much.

The gauge will always say 100% on the right side of it. You have to look at the semi circular bar graph to see the level. Mine takes about 500 miles before the bar graph starts to move.

Shoot I wish my sensor was stuck at full. Maybe I'd never have to fill it then lol.

I've had some tanks seem to last forever, and other tanks go super fast. It really depends on what you're doing with the truck.

Also, I've found it best to fill when it about half ways between empty and that first tick mark (usually 200-250 miles IIRC). If you try to fill it as soon as it yells at you, you won't get a full jug to go in. If you wait until it's damn near empty then you only get about 3/4 tank on the gauge.

My BMW, I drove that for a year (~15k miles) and never had to fill the DEF. I had bought a jug when I first got it because I didn't know how fast it would go through it and I didn't want to be surprised one day, and I never did end up using it. It was either crazy efficient or someone had tuned it out, but when I had it tuned there was no indication it had been tuned prior.

I wonder if they overfilled it? Still, not budging after 1000 miles is a bit odd. If I remember correctly you should be somewhere around 80% at this point. If it still reads 100% after 4000 miles you should get it looked at, you'll be needing to refill around then.

EDIT: I see the last paragraph of the OP now, nevermind!

Mine honks at me around 25% level and I get to about 75% level with a jug of DEF. So I add one jug when it starts to complain, and buy another to keep on hand. I kinda wish the tank was either smaller or larger so I could fill 100% without a partial jug sitting around, but then I tell myself it's no big deal and quit being so OCD about it! As long as I don't have an open jug I don't really care.

I’m averaging 877 mpg of DEF long term, but it varies from probably 700 to 1500 depending on conditions. OP’s experience seems within the bounds of normal so far

I'm getting about 2,400 miles per 2.5 gal jug. Or from full to half tank.

Your good just look at the bar graph like Rusty PW said. I'm getting beyond 2,500 miles on a full tank using pure Def.

With both my 21 Rubi Jlu & Jt: I purchase one of the Blue Def jugs at Costco usually or parts store when the gauge says 1/2 empty/full (strait up). It takes the whole jug and the gauge goes all the way over to the right. I Never really worried about how many miles. When I first purchased the JLU, I read a lot of folks saying you would eventifly get an oil change about the same time as needing def (10k). Never gone that far, not close. Like I said when she hits 1/2, I just stop at Costco and pour it in. This last September we drove to Moab from Seattle. I filled up both DEF before we left and both needed another jug+ when we got home, around 2800 miles round trip. They were both between 1/4-1/2. We did freeway speeds to and from. The JT used more (just under 1/4) as I was pulling a 3k-lb covered utility trailer with all the camping gear for 2 Jeeps, 4 adults, 3 kids, 1 dog.😀 And yes, we had a blast. Nothing really tough like some of you. We did do some up-sy/down-sy, off camber fun, and my Daughter in law was a first timer pilot in my JLU. She had never really piloted an off road vehicle before. We went with the "Lady Jeepers Club, out of GA." My wife joined in 2020 after purchasing her Bikini JLU sport S 2.0t. Our first trip was to Winrock, TN for a Beginners training course. Us boys are "+1's" on their trips. This year they let me run my JT along as a spouse. 😉 I did most of the trails as a +1 with the wife. I took my JT on the badged trail to get the badge for "the Our's jeep". Didn't want the JT to be upset the other two had a badge, & she didnt!

I just flipped to that screen while driving and quickly checked, and went back to the speedo. My fault.
I just knew it was using the def cause I could smell it, just was worried the sensor wasn't working and sense it still was under the 36k warranty I wanted to get to the bottom of it quick.

I'll have to post the story about me buying the gladiator in the first place.. it was not typical.

Wow. That's really low consumption. Mine consumes around 1000 miles per gallon of def.
