What options did you go with??
Just abut everything MINUS cargo system, mats, soft top bag, smoking group, bedliner, hard top, steel bumper yeah.. think thats it

Everything I didn't get I figured I could get something aftermarket that was better or at least more aligned with my needs.

I just tried again with the dual top group (I figure I can sell the soft top to recoup the extra price, and someone will get an unopened soft top for about $500 less than ordering through the dealer or quadratec). My dealer is trying to place the order now. I'll let y'all know the results this time. Fingers crossed.

I offered to buy a soft top from someone if they ordered a dual top group a while back (back when you couldn't buy it separately). May be interested...

I've called 2 dealerships today and one came back saying "not available yet", so im assuming that means its delayed.I'm still waiting on the other to call in the case the first one just said "no" to avoid the hassle. I thought i had the patience...i just want the darn thing locked in so i can stop bothering the dealerships, i dont care how long it takes after that to get the keys in my hand... Ive been waiting since 1992....
Hydro Blue was finally opened to order about 5 weeks past date listed.

I had visited several dealers and a couple of them notified me when the color was open to order.

I was tempted to change and get it sooner but held out.

Seeing all of these great pictures of people having fun with theirs now is tempting me to settle for less than I ordered- so far able to resist the temptation....

Hope it opens soon for you!!

Good deal, I just want to have a basis for your ordering. Your order options may have been perfect for the allowance to order at this time whereas my order may have options that keep it grey'd out. Thanks for the followup

terrible answer
Just for clarification for area of responsibility.

They (FCA, Jeep Cares, etc) cannot overstep the dealerships per franchise license agreements, just like dealerships cannot overstep FCA on what will or will not be covered under warranty...

Even though FCA often tells the customer to contact their dealership about warranty claims the ultimate decision is on FCA, whether or not FCA will pay the warranty cost if the dealership oversteps then the cost of the repair would be on them...

Since I'm trying to get my delivery by year end, I wonder if I should just go soft top and order a primed hard top to have painted whenever they'd be available - I guess I'd be out $2295 plus whatever it would be to paint it- (I'd expect not too much since there's no disassembly or prep work to be done) OR if I go ahead and order the soft top configuration, I wonder if since there are typical long waits for these to actually be produced, if by chance the painted hard top becomes available, what are the general rules about adjusting the order after I've already placed one?

There are some posts around of people trying to change things. I think at either D or D1 status you won't be able to change anything. Honestly, I expect you will at least hit D within a few days of your order. If you really want the color top I would suggest waiting until maybe the second week of October. It may be out by then. If it still isn't available then you would probably have to just figure on buying the primered top.

I spoke to a sales manager tonight and he was pretty confident that if I placed a Gator order now, that it would just sit in the system until sometime in October- so no real reason to put it in now. Hmmm. I guess I need to just chill for a bit and perhaps my luck will allow me to order the truck with the matching hardtop all at once.

Maybe the factory inventory management had an allocation of dual-top group part bundles that have to move as a bundle; hard top, soft top, tonneau. The fact you can’t order the dual without getting the tonneau makes that seem feasible, that’s their system. They apparent force the tonneau so they can ship the truck with the soft top on the bed. Breaking up the group would leave stray tonneaus... Just guessing...
