Checked it on the way in. 7th gear on 90% of the commute in this morning. Even hit 8th on a slight downhill on the way.
I'm averaging a combined 17 mpg

That's awesome. I stand corrected and that definitely wasn't my case on 35's and figured it would be worse on 37s but it appears it seems to be the opposite. I wouldn't worry about regearing if that is the case.

2" lift on heavy 37" mud hogs with stock 4.10s and the thing spends the majority of its time on highways and freeways in 7th. I don't know how you could possibly not see 7th unless you're running 42s and 3.73s? Uphill everywhere you go? 6k+ lbs with a ton of gear? Towing a trailer everywhere? Giant rooftop tent acting like a parachute at speed? They just can't be that different in behavior for a standardish JT on 35-37s. I don't buy it. Not to mention we had a JLUR that was heavy with full armour and camping gear on 38s with 4.10s and it mostly lived in 7th. Our current JLUR on 39s with 4.56s does the same.

Did the 37" xt spare fit in the spare tire carrier location? any mod to get it to fit?
Some get lucky as most tires don't match their advertised size. I had read the the BFGs run small. I fit my 37 in the stock location after buying a Clayton adjustable rear track bar. It has a bend in it to help clear the oversize tire.

Yeah, I think there's just some weird obsession with the 7th or 8th gear thing.
Agreed, people obess over the strangest things. I got better fuel mileage with stock gears and 37s, then I did after re-gear. But people want to argue about what ratio is best and this or that.

Very similar to my experience! Stock 3.73s and yes my 37 inch BFGs are 35.5 mounted but my 35 inch Goodyears were 33.5 mounted and were heavier (E range vs current C range). For whatever reason the transmission seems happier, mostly 7th with dips into 8th. Less gear hunting than when I had the 35s. Mostly averaging 17 to 17.5 with one tank at 18 mpg combined daily commute is just about 50/50 city/hwy whereas before I would get barely 16 mpg on the same drive with the heavier 35s. I don't feel like it is a dog off the line as I can still bark the tires too. Regear if you want or don't, everyone has different priorities!

Betcha he is talking about KO2 tires. They are the lightest weight 37s and are well known for running on the smaller side.
They are light. As for small, unless the specs I’ve seen are incorrect, they’re within .2” of most common 37s. I’m not saying that’s nothing…but it’s not like they’re 35.5” and the competition is 37.5”.

Yeah, I think there's just some weird obsession with the 7th or 8th gear thing.
This, so much.

I’m not anti-regear. The gladiator is slow, so any way to add (effective) power is welcome. But I’m convinced I could take these regeared 8-speeds and add a 9th gear and suddenly everyone would lose their minds that “it can’t hold 9th!” No one is concerned it “can’t hold 1st” when accelerating or that “it’s jumping back and forth between first and second” while driving in traffic, but having the transmission downshift like it’s designed to rather than simply race-to-eighth and stay there and you’d think the whole transmission must be about to shake itself loose from the truck.

I'm convinced those people want it to drive like the old 3 and 4 speed autos. If you aren't accelerating it should stay in the top gear like my TJ did right? In order to gear the 8 speed low enough to actually behave like that you have to gear so low it's in 8th by 40mph. So much for an 8 speed, you're out of gears by half the legal speed limit.

I think your interpretation of what people want is off. But it helps make your case.

The only argument i ever see here or the JL forum for gearing real low is so it will hold 8th gear? Often people argue it should hold 8th up hills and in to high headwinds. Not 1 vehicle from the factory with this 8 speed transmission does that. Not a Jeep or a charger. 7th is still overdrive. It's supposed to downshift under any increased load by design. 32s and 3.45s like a stock JL is equivalent to 38s and 4.10s. My mojave on 37s drives very similar to the stock JLU sahara we rented in Hawaii. It doesn't need more gearing for crawling and definitely not for the freeway. Sure 4.56s would be perfect for 37s to make up for the added wind resistance, but 5.13s? 5.38s? No thanks, I'm like having overdrives that behave like overdrive.

I think most of us here know what an auto transmission is supposed to do.

Yes there are 3.45 geared Jeeps with 32” tires, but there are also 4.10 geared Jeeps with 32” tires and even 4.88 with 32s.

Good thing there are options because there are some different opinions and different needs and wants.
