Hi all,

Finally ready to pull the trigger on a rubicon JT. I’m going back and forth on if I will be happy with a v6 at a great price vs ordering and waiting for a diesel on an ok price. The MPG for the range sounds great but most drawn to not needing to regear and the power. I have turbo JL on 35’s now so I’m used to not being a speedy vehicle anyway lol. The biggest I will likely run is 37’s.

Would love some honest feedback if you could do it over again.

When everyone had to move to Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel and added the DEF into the mix plus all the newer restrictions I walked away from diesel and will not return.
They took the balls out of the diesels, they took the higher fuel mileage out of the diesels.

My 2004 Ford 6.0 3/4 ton 4x4 with an Edge tuner was consistently getting 28-30 MPG on interstate with no load, 21-22 MPG pulling my enclosed motorcycle trailer.

Good luck finding that now.

Also, diesel is overpriced, it is the least refined fuel, has the same restrictions as gas when it comes to sulfur, and yet it is more expensive than premium unleaded, Go figure.

Nope. Proper gearing is key. My last diesel was a 2003 7.3l. Once the regs went nuts with EGR, particulate filters, DEF and ridiculous penalties for deletes there was no advantage left for the diesel, aside from maybe range.

No, and I've never given it a second thought. If I towed more than I do, maybe I would have reconsidered, but I don't. And besides, I really love the Pentastar.

Got the diesel! 3800 miles in and averaging 27 mpg. No complaints so far.

No regrets in getting a gasser over diesel. Having owned a late model diesel truck. I do not miss all the extra worry and attention to detail one need to make sure a modern DPF/DEF diesel system is running happy and right.

Math is never there for diesel so that means getting one because you want the low end torque it delivers. Anything else, is just fooling yourself. If not risk averse and diesel is what you want for what it delivers, then get it.

Absolutely NOT!!!! Love my gasser.
Plus I like not only long but short trips. Jump in Jeep go for a quick drive. The desisel doesn't like these kind of short trips.

Nope, zero regrets. The only diesel I’ll ever want is the 6.7L Cummins or Powerstroke.

As @Kevin_D said. I don't regret it. I would regret not getting a Max Tow though. I'm happy with my purchase. If they ever put a Hemi in one maybe I'll buy another, I'd rather have a Hemi over a diesel
Got the rubicon with the tow package on the one I should sign for tomorrow.

I had the diesel in my WK2 and loved the mileage and torque, but the emissions equipment was constantly having issues and the turbo lag sucked. I went with the 3.6, regeared, and have been pleasantly surprised.
