I’m not in the brain trust but I’m old so I don’t care what I say anymore. So here goes! I don’t like the ESS system as a whole , just would rather not shut off my engine that is designed to do it, so I did the full delete, battery is gone ,all wires going below are in a bag where battery was , put six inch jumper between the electronics and main battery on array and installed the Z wave to prevent ESS from restarting in on position on every startup. ESS stills works if I push the button in on dash.
I also put in a Genesis system (Gen 3)for what it was designed for it runs my fridge in the bed , air compressor , GMRS radio, water pump and rear bed lights and outlets, when engine is off the Genesis system will disconnect from starting battery if house battery gets too low. If engine is running I have the ignition interconnect that will charge both batteries when running. I also put an USA made Zamp 100 watt solar system on my cap which really works well on any sunny day. The last redundant thing is my ARB fridge like most other good fridges will turn off if battery voltage gets too low.
Depending on your options you might have the larger battery 94R already, if not and you are set on losing the aux battery, take the spacer out of bottom of tray and get the bigger battery and getting the Z wave ESS delete keeps the ESS light from coming on at dash after a while. Be aware if trading in your jeep some dealers including my awesome one don’t want any dash lights on and will figure in cost of battery replacement in your trade in value.
Enjoy this book I wrote!…Jack

So the Saga continues , I'm at work and I noticed that voltage had dropped I had been idling for about 40 min. And seen 12.7 all the sudden the ESS symbol kicks on. I am like what the heck.. as I had just replaced lawn mower battery and main tested at 12.86. So I just happened to have a 10mm socket and ratchet and my multimeter was still in here ..
Here is the lesson. Dont just ever look at your terminals in the dark.
😂 after pulling off the negative and IBS I seen it the terminal was coated in a dull corrosion and even the IBS contacts where dull . So I thought dang !! Wonder if the positive is the same sure enough dull and corroded. I search all over jeep find a fingernail care kit and get the file out and start lightly scrapping everything . So a worker comes up and sees what I am doing . And says hey I got a wire brush . So I finished with his wire brush and put everything back together and ....yep light goes out and it starts charging at 14.0volts. It is now at 13.8 . So lessons learned .. clean your terminals and especially don't inspect them in the dark or dim evening light .
Edit added some pics.

I have looked at the Optima Orange top H6 Lithium battery that is being offered for our applications and from what I am seeing, there is an electronics package built into the battery that manages incoming charging supply and moderates that for the lithium battery charging and provides charging feedback to the vehicle. In theory, it should not be a issue for the vehicle.

Edit: Besides cold weather charging concerns, the other issue is cost at $850 USD that makes it 3X-4X the cost over a decent AGM. The only plus sides I am seeing is the low weight of the lithium batteries and a potential 8-10 years battery life.
I didn’t know these existed. Super cool.

I went to Lordco to warranty exchange out the 2 year old OPTIMA battery. The whole drive there, alternator showed 14.2v, parked, shut it off and battery at 12.7….then quickly dropped to 12.3.

Talked with the parts guy and he confirmed that he’s seen several yellow tops die early and come back for exchange. I asked what if I exchange for some other “like” 94r battery, “sure! he said, that would be the AC DELCO, we hardly see problems with those, highly recommend it”. I said OK and asked him to put a trickle charger on it while I go pull my battery out.

Here’s what’s weird, I went out and pulled the Optima and brought it in. He put his BOSCH tester on it and reading came out 100% health and charge. After hearing what numbers I was seeing and the photos I took, he called his manager and he agreed with me something wasn’t right and he approved the exchange, no problems.

All the driving I did with the new battery, alternator stayed at 14.3v and now that I just got home, engine off, battery reads 13.1v.

I’m assuming the alternator is going to kick down soon??

You can’t just directly relate the voltage while running, from the alternator, to battery health. It’s not just charging when it thinks the battery needs it. It charges when more draw is detected, to protect the battery.

So, do you hang out on this forum and do your own pedicures while “on the job”? This sure is taking a right hand drift turn all of a sudden!🤣

When the IBS decides the battery is fully charged it will drop voltage down.
If the battery was fully charged when installed and the IBS reset when it was installed, it can take a few hours for the IBS to "learn" the new battery.
Normally a drive, then sitting without a load for several hours will do it, otherwise it can take a couple of drive cycles.
I have the exact sequence needed for the IBS to relearn and things to settle around here somewhere.

Yeah, they only came on my radar this past weekend. The below video is what introduced me to them. He goes over the basics and installs it in his RAM.

I would also add to my other post on the subject is that one also needs a new compatible charger for the lithium tech if they want to keep it trickle charge or top off after storage.

Very good point. All the battery tenders out there, in my garage included, will be incompatible.

Along those lines, I could piss everyone off and post to the “what did you do to” thread every day. The post, “charged it”.

So like the electric vehicles towing a gas-powered generator to have "unlimited" range, I suppose JTs should be doing similar?

This should work, no?

Car on the trailer appears to be going a tad fast. But teslas are dangerous, so no surprise I guess.
