Well, here we go again. Been doing oil analyses on this second engine since the first oil change and several along the way to 50k kms now on this engine and I’ve been uneasy reading the reports showing high iron levels. Last oil change done with 7155k kms on the oil and IRON @90ppm. It’s been telling me something hasn’t been right from day one and today I now know why the iron was so high. MISFIRE PO305.

Driving down the freeway and I got that vibration from the engine and I said to myself, here we go! Then the engine light reared its ugly head. I knew what it was before I pulled the code.

Now the warranty fun begins all over again.

You are in an abusive relationship with your Gladiator. One of you needs to get out from the other.

I hope you have one of the good dealers, but from your comment, I am guessing no. Good Luck

Hang in there.
You know what’s funny,..well, not so funny, those that know me here from my first humble beginnings on this forum have read my experiences with my 21 JTR, can honestly believe that because I’ve looked at the truck, talked about it and even when I pull out a wrench, …the truck breaks.

In 89k kms I’m on my second engine, 4th transmission, 3rd power steering pump, multiple door checks, back roof replaced -(not my fault, I swear!), …but it’s an AWESOME truck?.

The funny part is, two days ago I mustered up my bravery and worked on a compelling speech and rehearsed this speech in the bathroom and while driving and pretending to be on the phone many times,…I WANT TO REBUILD THIS ENGINE, hone the cylinders, have better parts put in, have it balanced and all done by a rebuilder that cares. No more factory crap and fricken dealing with corporate.

So I sat the wife down, pulled out my speech paper and speed read it to her, then looked at her. All I heard was silence, …then she said, “OK, …what’s the issue here”? The next day, MISFIRE, crap!!

Now I’ve got a few rebuilders I want to talk too. I don’t want a V8. Just a 3.6 that is built better and performs just a tad better. I’m happy.

That’s about to change. I talked to two rebuilders in Calgary and both of them said they can do all the boring and honing and balancing and better parts and tolerances but at the end of the day the 3.6 pentastar engine is an engineered nightmare so they wouldn’t even consider doing it and I shouldn’t either.

I still have warranty on that engine so I’ll let them toss this around and perform what they think and I might just jump ship.

20 hour teardown to replace the manifold and tappets, that's almost like rebuilding an engine.

My right manifold is being replaced for misfire issues, but cams were ok.

Hmm, why the manifold? did it overheat and damage it? usually a cylinder head or head gasket went and burnt it up

my cylinder head broke, overheated the engine, rockers cams lifters all burnt and damaged

my dealer said they have replaced a crazy amount of camshafts. they replaced all the cams, lifters rockers twice, cylinder heads, still no good, getting a new engine, i wonder if the manifold is damaged too

Cylinder head. Left side failed the pressure test.

I will check in the morning when all the slush and crap has melted and dried off under there. Thanks for the tip. Oh ya, how do you know?
