I am wanting to add a dual side exhaust set up but don't want to break the bank either. I know most exhaust don't do much overall. I have cut off the suitcase already and wanted to have shop weld in a Y pipe from the back exhaust to some pipe on each side behind the tires and put on some dual exhaust tips. Basically trying to give a nice look like the Borla Atak but not spend $1700. I would think an exhaust shop could weld in some pipe for a few hundred bucks and tips are around 75. I was looking at the Redrock and some other dual exhausts and they don't really sound much different anyways. Will the stock gladiator exhaust work as normal with an Y pipe after the rear axle exhaust and another side pipe put on?

Yeah I assumed the extra dual pipe coming out the other side would still sound the same for sure since its still just the stock exhaust. I am wondering if I am going to get any weird back pressure issues or power loss or engine issues with adding a second tailpipe off the stock exhuast? I the Borla systems are the only systems I think actually sound a lot different.

Whatever you do….get stainless, or it won’t last very long. On a previously owned Tacoma (V6), I had a catback setup. I had the shop weld all the joints.
Sure…it was ’neat as hell’ when I first got it. Sounded better at idle, but sounded more ‘ricey’ at full throttle. Cab noise…yes, but you get used to it.

After about 4 years….. I had developed holes in the muffler (factory welds).
The guys at the shop said “they only last 4-6 years”.

Luckily …I kept the original setup. Took the exhaust off and went back to OEM.
After 4 years…. I was amazed at how quiet the cab was!!!

You have already removed the suitcase sized muffler, that adds the most resistance to flow. Just add a freer flowing as quiet as possible and you’ll get the most benefit short of a straight pipe out the stock tailpipe and resonator. The only way to have true dual exhaust is illegal for one, very expensive to do it right, and will only be so effective for a 3.6 Lt engine.

The guy above is basically correct the 3.6 sounds terrible not necessarily like garbage with anything but the stock exhaust for the most part. I installed a flow master exhaust that exits just under the rear axle. Most of the time I like the way it sounds just driving around town. But on a trip it drives me crazy especially on long inclines in sixth gear. Cruising in 8th gear no problem.

I'm really not looking for a sound difference just the look of the dual exhaust. Just didn't want the extra exhaust pipe to cause any issues with pressure or anything with stock exhaust.

If its not a V8 I prefer to keep it as quiet as possible .

If all you want is the look that’s easy. Just pick up the exhaust tips you want and bolt an extra tip to a bracket coming out the back. Put it on a pipe if you want it to not look so noticeable and use exhaust hangers coming off the frame on the passenger side.

Jeep has done a great job tuning the exhaust. However the parameters from the government are very strict about sound decibels in total. That being the overall sounds made at a certain drive by distance under certain throttle settings. Both exhaust, intake roar and mechanical noise effects that allowance. However the pipes themselves have been engineered very well, they have a decent inside diameter and are what’s called mandrel formed, meaning the inside diameter stays constant throughout all the bends. Even the left and right pipe from the exhaust manifold to the junction where they meet is the same length. All that is what is necessary for the most power output overall. The only items you can replace that can effectively reduce enough pressure to add a bit of power would be to replace the huge heavy middle muffler, with a freer flowing muffler, that of course is not loud enough to attract LEO. There’s also a small but effective resonator near the end of the tailpipe, that’s effective at eliminating any undesirable droning at constant hyw speeds. That will only add noise if removed and not add anything.
