A generic "is the light switch on?" question... we've asked these a lot in racing to make sure we weren't crazy:

Is everyone sure the fan is turning the correct way?

It is when I'm stopped! ;)

When looking at my scan tool, wide open throttle is generally 100% load. After 260°, you start seeing that number drop to around 75% plus or minus.

Here is a pic while towing my camp trailer of about 3500lb last night. See how low the ambient temp is? Elevation was still low too?

Looks just like a 6.0 Powerstroke issue. Engine oil temps are driving up coolant temps and overloading the systems. Looks like we all need to flood BulletProof Diesel and Mishimoto for solutions.

Just how do you know that it "derates". Oil temps of 260 are within acceptable and do not set off any alarms or lights. My temps pretty much sit about the same numbers all the time with little movement of maybe 5 or 10 degrees at most. Living in Phoenix I would guess our 110 degree days would have an adverse affect on the diesel but I have not seen any issues with performance or power.
That sound like the same thing the Ford techs used to say to people complaining about their 6.0 overheating and knowing that it was related to an insufficient oil cooling system. "It's in parameters." lol

Yes, hoping there will be a solution and I feel it should be a TSB fixed at no cost!

Even towning 1500lbs with the cruise control set at 75, I've never seen temps like that. Today at 102 degrees on I-10 towing 1500 lbs with my Jeep weighing in at 7580 lbs my oil temp was 221, coolent was 212 and trans was 204.

Those are normal numbers I see on the flats with similar loads and a low profile trailer. Introduce a long grade 5%+ and things really get warm. Ambient temp doesn't seen to have a huge effect on the water/oil temps. I think they just missed the mark sizing the cooling system.

Bulletproof Diesel Response:

Hello C,

Thank you for taking the time to write in.

We appreciate the information and will be actively looking for a Jeep to look at and see what can be done. We will keep you informed if there is anything we can do to help with this.

Again thank you for the feedback and the information.

Pretty sure the only thing they did was to slap on a bigger fan for the diesel. If that even. Probably the same fan as the max tow.

Same part numbers for the radiator/cooling system (gladiators, wranglers, gas, hemi, and diesel):
- https://www.moparpartsinc.com/p/Jee...LER-Transmission-Oil/75661086/68314791AA.html

I could be wrong, and usually am, but I do not see any extra effort on Jeep's part to cool the diesel.

Yes, it appears that is the case.

Just tried to call on the "Cold Case" radiator to see if they could give me any info on stock vs Cold Case's radiator BTU ratings or if they had run across or advise them of diesel cooling issues....They were closed for the day on the East coast.

I just got off the phone with BulletProof Diesel and if there are any people in the Mesa, AZ or SouthWest region that have the means to allow them to take a look at their vehicle this is something they are very interested in helping us find a solution for.

I'm all about looking for companies that have the proper tools, network, and ability to find long lasting and overkilled solutions to issues that we have with our diesel vehicles. Could there be a cheap way to cool the oil system and tap into the existing housing? Maybe, but with a $60k+ investment I'd rather try and find a solution that goes through some serious engineering, research, and development. I've blown an oil line on a rig before on the freeway and it is no fun. And there is no shortage of people having issues of leaks or other issues with cheaper competitors products. I've hauled hundreds of thousands of miles however personally with BulletProofs products in the most extreme conditions and never had an issue from one of their products.

So if there is a couple of people closer than me that can loan them their Gladiator and/or Wrangler for a couple days hopefully they can come up with something to help us get these temps under control and enjoy our EcoDiesels without worrying about damage to the motors, being stranded somewhere, and assure the longevity of our investment.

What are your thoughts on what needs to be addressed? Oil cooler so it doesn't overwhelm the cooling system? Or larger cooling system so it doesn't become overwhelmed?

I’ve only had my JTRD for two weeks but I have noticed it runs 10-20 degrees hotter than my JLUR gasser did under normal driving conditions. Planning on towing over Labor Day so I’ve been following this thread for awhile and just overall concerned with how hot this thing runs. I reached out to bulletproof and Mishimoto as well. Just so they can see that they’re people interested. The more people that reach out the more likely they are to help. I’ve done a little digging over on the Ram forums and they have the same problems when towing. So this isn’t anything new for the EcoDiesel. Also read a few responses that simply better tuning solved some of the overheating issues. Hopefully once the GDE tune is out we will see some improvements.
Best Regards ??

Just sent off emails to both Bulletproof and Mishimoto with a link to this thread asking for a solution if possible.

I live in Mesa, AZ Sent an email to Bulletproof to see if they want to take a look at my rig.

Also I've seen some mention about tuning. Be careful about tuning as it will void your warranty on the engine.
