If it was a fuel pump, it’s getting insane that Jeep / Bosch isn’t taking this more seriously, somebody is going to get killed…

I’m leaving on a desert Boondocking trip on Friday… I’m planning on running 2-3oz of HotShots while towing…

Ok, latest from Dealer is: truck threw a code for high pressure fuel pump. So, from the vast experience of the members, what kind of noise do you hear when a fuel pump impeller comes apart?
I’ve never heard a diesel make noise from fuel shut down…that’s how a diesel is shut down!
I guess I’ll know when they install a new fuel pump, start it up and it either locks up, or it runs fine.
It's mechanically ran off the front of the motor, if it's chewing itself to death you will certainly hear it when it goes.

From the couple I read about. No one mention anything about the fuel pump making noises. Yours's is the first that mentioned noise.

What it sounded like when I tried to restart it after the fuel pump blew. I had run to home Depot then washed it. Taking wife out to dinner. Kaput! No noise before hand. Just stopped and coasted to the side of the street.

Make sure you get an oil sample and have it tested. When mine went, it started knocking in the bottom end really bad. I took it into the dealer the next moring and just before I got there, it stopped. Of course thier first reaction was its a diesel and they sound different. Duh, I've had several of them, and I know what they sound like and what they are not supposed to sound like. It had a recall open so they got stuff for it and I took it back a week later. When they drained the oil to start taking it apart, it was a silver stream of shavings and the pan was full of silver mud.

Tough Day, my ecoDeisel failed yesterday. 2022 JT with 14,031 miles. My years of engine related experience leads me to timing chain failure, which usually results in lots of internal damage. It’s at Anderson CJDR in Lake Havasu City waiting for “assessment”. And I’m waiting for the call.
I had a 2015 Ram 1500 with ED, and put 74k miles without a hiccup. Not so lucky here.
That sucks !! I have 6 eco diesels 5 in Jeep products my 17 Ram just turned 180k miles my sons 16 Grand Cherokee has 176k miles and average of 40k on the Jl/Jtr's only issue was on the Ram at 178k miles emissions related so we fixed that permanently. Bummer to hear about your Jeep hope they ger you fixed up quickly. We religiously change oil every 5k miles and air and fuel filters every 10k miles always use ldl injector cleaner since new but zero issues

Almost 24,000 miles in one year. Mine has been great.
Hey, Russ - are these "interference engines". Old-timer like you will know what I mean.
Some are, some aren't. Interference engines are pretty nasty after a timing chain loss while non-interference engines simply stop.

And please refresh me - since I've not owned a diesel since my farm years..........
I may be remembering incorrectly, but it seems my 1086 simply stopped running when it was out of fuel (yeah, I thought I could make it until lunch and then take it back to the house.)
Then there was a John Deere that sounded like it was going to blow when it had fuel issues.
Which is normal, which am I remembering incorrectly?

I’m planning on running 2-3oz of HotShots while towing…

Completed some work recently involving a tune and exhaust mods. The tuner said to run 3 to 5oz. of lubricant at each fill-up when using U.S. diesel. From him:

"Yes I personally rotate between Amsoil all in one, arch oil ar6500 and hot shots edt. Periodically I will use Lucas upper cyl lube or Power Service or Optilube."

Sounds like the brand isn't as important as ensuring a hefty dose of some reputable lubricant is used. I too have been running products exclusively from Hot Shot. I ended up grabbing quart sized jugs of LX4 & EDT directly from Hot Shot. Both can be had for $49 shipped if using a 10% coupon code (last I used was HSSTEN and still seems to be valid).

I mix them 50/50 using a refillable 16oz. EDT style flask that I found on amazon:

Jeep Gladiator Engine Failure quick_shot

I might mix it up and try some other brands but currently just shy of 50k miles and it has been happy. Been running lube since new but not in the above dosages, I didn't learn until around 30k miles just how poorly our diesel lubricates.

Bill, honestly I couldn't tell you if it is or not. If it is, just take the motor out and use it for a boat anchor. Because there wouldn't be anything that you could reuse.

Any updates? I think several of us are curious and following this pretty closely :)

Thanks!
