All I can I say OP is, I’m sorry.

Have you had the job quoted anywhere? I bet it won’t be cheap.

ChatGPT tells me the total replacement, engine and labor, will be 5-8K. I can feel that in my plums.
That’s because balls love engines.

First post. Just over 100k.
My bad somehow missed it.

Well… it’s been driven. Maybe figure out what another shop would charge to fix your motor in the first place? OEM service depts typically mean OEM premiums.

Very true. Probably get better rates from a good independent in comparison.

About $180/hr here for dealer shop rate.

I know it wasn't one of your stated options, but if your looking to just replace heads. You could look into Cylinder Heads Internation.
I've used them a few times on other rigs and can't say enough good about them.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I’ll share my experience and leave you with what I wish I had of done.

My 2020 JTR @51,000 miles developed a tick that quickly became a rattle. Took it to the dealer. My warranty had expired five months earlier. I opted for a new engine. That invoice was $8,320. I was satisfied, after all I had a tremendous amount of money invested in upgrades. 1200 miles later it’s back in the shop. This time cam phasers and $1,150. Again loving my gladiator.

Now for where I feel like I messed up. 3,500 miles on the new engine. Developed a faint tick. Took it to the dealer, they agreed it had a problem. The repair would have cost me nothing but time without my gladiator.

I traded for a 2025 JTR in mojito. I love the color, however not a single day has passed that I feel like I made the right decision. From my experience. If you like what you have it’s worth fixing.

Just my opinion after my experience.

My wife asks how much money it would cost someone else to do “whatever the hell I just did”. Thousands. Many thousands.

Recon.....don't want to buy another problem with no recourse.
If you're lucky, they might source their valve train components aftermarket.

There aren't any. There's no aftermarket sources.
(we also can't say it's actually those parts that are the cause - they may be the effect instead)

I've really had great luck over the years with reman engines and transmissions.
Other parts like starters, alternators and so on - nope, only new for me.
But engines and transmissions are different animals and done very differrently.
