Does anyone have experience running the EVO double throwdown?

I am planning on doing some suspension upgrades in the future and am considering this as an option for the front. I’d pair it with an external bypass and a coil spring in the rear. My shop says they could put a coilover and bypass in the rear but they’d want to cut open the bed and build custom shock towers/mounts.

Currently I’m running evo springs, fox dsc 2.5s, long arms, one tons, etc. I tried to build it right and not pay for things twice but here we are. It drives great on the road and is great for crawling but I’d like to be able to go much faster in the desert.

If anyone has first hand experience or any better ideas I’d love to hear your experience

Justin, what did you end up doing with your suspension? Did you go with the EVO Double Throwdown front and back?

I have not done anything yet. Nobody currently makes a coilover/bypass setup for the rear of the JT unless you go to an EVO trailing arm. The owner of my shop is about to start a new build with custom brackets for a front and rear coilover/bypass. It will require cutting into the bed but with that you will get at least a 14" travel coilover and the geometry will be heavily improved. I am waiting to see how that turns out. I'm not sure if the JT has enough power to warrant another 20k into the suspension to go fast. I might pass and put the money towards a new build in the future.

Is that the trailing arms kit? This youtuber [Banned Site] installed those. They work so well he cracked his dynatrac 60 in the rear going fast tho. Pretty amazing kit though the articulation is unrivaled.

Saving for a new build sounds a lot more financially sound. Having seen the stock Raptors out on the dunes I wouldn't even think to try and pour money into my Gladiator to try and match em.

Yes, that is the trailing arm kit I am referring to. I want to keep and utilize my long arms as they will articulate more than a trailing arm kit and save me a lot of money. It'd be a similar setup through the bed but attaching to the axle instead of the trailing arm. Still massive amount of travel.

I am. not surprised he broke a 60 with that setup. He's on a 42" Nitto with a heavy rig doing 60mph+ in the whoops.

That is another reason I am considering building something different to go fast. The diesel JT is heavy! There isn't nearly enough available power to warrant that suspension.

I'm interested in an LS swap stretched LJ. It would be considerably lighter, more nimble and easier on components at speed.

Haha yeah and he isn't trussed or supported otherwise. Where it cracked looks like stress from the axle tubes trying to get out. Those tubes are no joke in dynatracs the area where his fracture is makes sense. I don't think pumpkin nearly stout by itself for that sort of forces. When they "fixed" it I wondered why not have the guy wield on some trussing to lessen the stress on that fix.

Good point. Figuring out how to make it light for less stress or make it even more heavy to support more forces and hence slower. That sort of project doesn't interest me I think you'll get better results going another route like you say.

That sounds like a great next build. A friend bought an LJ brand new back in the day and I always thought I'd buy one if a good deal ever came. Of course good luck to me on that these days lol. I have been looking at Motobilt's kits for the YJ for awhile. You can do a lot to get similar results. Those rectangular lights also don't bother me.

Doing a truss would make a lot of sense and is a relatively inexpensive way to strengthen the axles. It sounds to me like he will need to put a 70 or 80 in the rear if he wants to stay on 42s and go that fast.

Genright also makes some incredible kits for the YJ/TJ/LJ. I love Motobilt as well but they typically use steel where as genright uses aluminum. It would be a trailer rig, which leads into a new set of expenses and problems.

A Gladiator is not a trophy truck.
Nobody said it was... There are lots of rigs with suspension setups to go fast that are street legal. Just because there's not a lot of people to doing it to the gladiator, doesn't mean that it can't be done or shouldn't be done.

Thanks for another option I will take a look. I admit I haven't checked them out but they seem to be a very builder friendly option.

Hahah yeah two guys I hung with at EJS22 both had very tricked out TJs and both trailered them to the event. They were excited to talk about their Jeeps, but the topic though they really got excited about was rigs. Both had been looking for some time to upgrade their towing situation. Once the vehicle is good to go there are plenty of other ways to spend money.

You have a killer setup right now. Looks like you'll be having lots of fun no matter what you decide to do

The genright tracer kit is slick. Stretches it to 118", 14" coilovers f/r and mounts for an LS. Its a very complete kit albeit very expensive.

Thank you! I'm very happy with my it but is a build every finished?

...... I'm doing it lol. Trying to build the gladiator into a race truck. Hopefully within the next year I'll be at hammers, the mint 400 or the parker.

It's about the spirit of racing and building what you have to do what you want. Tons of useless and stupid comments about " just do this instead"

How about you do what you with your rig and have fun it. Not everyone had to start with a tube frame from a company. Some people just want to see what they can do with something that's not just another generic chassis

Well flame away but the double throw down system IMO is junk..Good friends of mine, one of the best shock tuners and a custom Offroad shop build Jeeps and KOH level builds. Both think the system is a joke.

Any recommendations on place of it?
