............. But Jeep isn't known for being quick to the market with anything...
Awe, come on - it only took a couple decades to get a pickup again. Not quick? What's 20-some years?

yes I remember the Eagle.. and I assume there is room.. but the handling of an IFS vs solid axel might be an issue considering the issues with JL JT steering...
LOL - yeah, you may have something there!
Anyone wanna try for 140 mph on the stock JT steering?

I know the guys putting Jeep axles under the front of their SX4 Eagles are using older Jeep parts - not anything from the last 20 years. And they do drive them on the highway.
I'm happy with the IFS under mine, it's all new ........ but I do need to freshen up the front differential.

well, I am happy with the 3.6
So am I.
It's a gutsy little truck and I easily get 19 when not being careful and can do 20-21 when my wife is in the other seat................
If it pulls my car hauler half-way well, I'll be thrilled. Even if MPG drops to 11-12 when towing that would be on-par with my Chevy and what it did.

The 3.6 V6 in the Gladiator out performs the slightly larger V6 I had in my Dakota!

I had V8 trucks in past
1979 Ford F-350 400m 140HP 6-8 mpg
1986 K30 Chevy 454 230HP 6-8 MPG
1997 Ford F-350 460 245HP 6-8 mpg
2007 Ford F-150 5.4. 260HP 10-12mpg

This V6 auto , blows them all away and gets better mpg

Wouldn't that make the gas mileage even worse?
Not necessarily. Look at Ford's F-150. The EcoBoost V6 gets the same MPG as the Coyote V8 in the real world, and LESS MPG while towing/hauling than the V8. Larger displacement engines don't have to work as hard to produce the same output. So, they don't need as much fuel.

You have seen the V8 Grand Cherokees.......... world's fastest SUV according to one magazine.
Yeah, 1998 ZJ 5.9 Limited.. World's Fastest SUV and WITH a solid front axle. But that was a totally different time from a crash test standpoint and gasoline was $0.89/gallon here in Kentucky when that Jeep came out. Today's Grand Cherokee SRT8 is still fast, but it doesn't have to meet the demands of rock crawling and it has different cooling needs. Plus the engine bay is larger.

frankly, If I were jonesin for a V8 I woulda been lookin at full size pickups
Why? A full size truck adds weight. A V8 in a midsize would be the most fun and most useful I think.

The 3.6 V6 in the Gladiator out performs the slightly larger V6 I had in my Dakota!
Heck, the 3.6L Pentastar out performs the V8 from the Dakota if you're talking speed. I think everybody today wants more torque in their Jeeps though, and that's where a V8 would come into play. You could have a lot more torque without the expensive and finicky nature of the diesel.

Unfortunately I think it is more realistic that the Gladiator will get the new Turbo 6 (GME T-6) than a V-8. Consider that the Hemi in architecture is a fairly old engine and is still a pushrod engine which is becoming rare in the market. While the Hemi has been upgraded with new technology (MDS, Mild Hybrid, ETC) and is a great proven platform it is still old and heavy. The new turbo 6 (Tornado) was targeted to only be 3 inches longer than the 4 cylinder, remember that the displacement is fairly low and the piston size will decrease versus the 3.6 or 2.4. Right now there is momentum on turbo charging direct injection engines, soon we will have variable compression ratios. As much as I would love a big NA V8 in the Gladiator I don't think it is going to happen.

I was just commenting to my wife last night that "I don't get why people are wanting or swapping to a V8"... I own a low 11 second/high 10 second vehicle...and yes...it's fun, but I don't romp around everywhere I go in it. I supposed in a "Truck" it would be more necesarry but when I see people dropping in a Hellcat crate motor in...I keep thinking that isn't going to do what a truck is supposed to do. Maybe I am wrong. I have never had a need for a V8 in my life. Been plenty fast with turbo 4's and 6's.
