Aren't truck Ecoboosts twin turbo?
Yes, both the 2.7 and the 3.5 I have. Raptors have the HO 3.5. Not big turbos but there are 2 of them. Wife will be getting the 2.7 in her Bronco bc I cant stand the 3.6 in her grand cherokee out here at higher elevation.

My son has the 2.7 in his F-150 and he really likes it. The same engine in the new Bronco will be amazing. I think Jeep will have to develop a new engine to try and keep up with the competition and I'm not referring to a V-8.
In fact, I thought I read something about this maybe 6 months ago or so but couldn't find the article.

Not the same mpg. The 5.7l does a lot better.
16 MPG is a lot better than 15 MPG?

Ok.

The guys in Rams with both engines would disagree.

16 mpg? In city driving sure. I’m comparing to the 1500 4wds as that’s a closer comparison. The 5.7l gets great mpg (for what it is) in my personal experience. The late model 5.7l in the first gen like in my father’s old 2005 1500 got terrible mpg. If you’re talking about that engine, then I totally agree.

I've driven ecoboosts, even a Raptor on a test drive, they're pretty impressive. But the added complexity does make them break down sooner than simple V8 engines. They also require premium fuel. There is just more to go wrong in a boosted setup, with the layers of complexity that they bring.
I drove my 2015 F150 on 87 Octane for 5 years, zero problems. You're right that eventually there will be more maintenance costs but I guess it depends how long you keep your ride. For me personally I never keep one longer than 5-6 years.

I'm sure they could tweak the 4.7 to an acceptable HP range and get it to meet crash test rankings......Hell, I'd be happy if Jeep could at least get their HP ratings up to Dodge's current 6 cylinder rating of 305/269.....I know its only 20 or so HP and 9 lbs. of twisty, but anything is a plus !

I think the biggest reason FCA would NOT offer a V8 in the Gladiator is they're afraid it would eat into RAM truck sales. (Yeah, same reason I gave for the diesel having a tow rating lower than the gasoline engine.)

Years ago, there was a lot of talk about Ford offering a V8 in the Ranger. I even saw pictures of a prototype Ford built. Of course, it never happened. Yeah, likely because it would have ate into F-150 sales.

I like the supercharger idea. I saw a kit from Procharger specifically for the Gladiator. So, now there's another from Magnuson? Cool!
I wonder what the HP and twisty gains would be with a Supercharger ?

I have '17 f150 super crew w/ 3.5EB, 10speed, fx4 package, 6" lift, 35" MT tires and average 18.1mpg. Thats at elevation 5400'-12k' and driving 70-75mph. Towing a 3500lb camper, I average 14.3mpg at same elevation.

Not sure what the stock version of my truck would get as I've had the lift & tires since day 1.

Boost is huge at high altitude. I lived in CO for four years.

If I lived at altitude I'd own nothing but forced induction vehicles.

I had a JKU Rubicon when I moved to CO. It was the old 3.8l, but it was a 6 speed manual and was stock with 32s and had the 4.10 gears so you’d think it would have been ok. It was awful. Completely anemic. It was bought back because it was a complete POS (the engine was the only thing that was ok) I replaced it with a 2010 Xterra with the 4.0l VQ. The Xterra had a lot more power so it never struggled. It was fine. The 3.6l would probably do fine too. Similar power to weight ratio and three more gears.

Yep, that's why I even added a turbo and intercooler to my LJ w/ the 4.0. Completely different beast now with it.
I can understand that. As much as people Praise the 4.0l, an unlimited 4.0l has almost as bad of a power/weight ratio as a JKU with the 3.8l. The JKU weighs like 300 lbs more but has 10 more hp but the same torque.

my 3.8l did a lot better after a CAI and superchips tune. It actually ran great on the 93 octane tune (ran 91 there) and got surprisingly amazing gas mileage. It did fine around Denver, but struggled on the passes and I had to use 4lo just for enough power to off-road.

I have an aluminum prototype 4.0 head would be fun to put on one of my 4.0s............it would reduce weight and increase power. A couple of the Eagle guys have put turbos on those engines in their cars. I also have a spare 4.0 here, but no car to put it in.

Yeah my LJ weighs in at 4460lbs w/ the steel bumpers, winch, rockslider steps, 35” MT tires w/ spare. And thats with the rear bench removed and soft top installed, no hardtop here.
