Feeding the Hurricane 4xe Speculation

I've read no less than four articles that were less than complimentary about the Hurricane, but most of the information dealt with the fact that they are putting this into the RAM now, and the gas mileage is WORSE than the old Hemi used to be. Seriously. How brain dead is that, you take out a V-8 engine, for environmental purposes, and the customer buying the truck ends up losing even more money in gas?

I’m not sure how true it is, but I heard the same story about ford f150s,
; I was told that they had pushed the v6 out to dealerships, and to get the V8 ( better mpgs ) you had to custom order it.

They push the base motor to keep the price a little cheaper. It was a $1,000 option on mine for the 5.0. And mine was an order that someone backed out on when it came in.

I have to admit I dropped the ball, sorry everyone. I was at EJS this week and on one of our trail rides Jeep was present in that Hurricane 500. I was talking to one of them (even got a cap out of it). I saw all that and that it had the 4xe on the side. Just blew it off as the hybrid.

Of course after the trail ride heading back to camp, thinking about the day, I was like wait a minute! Could that have been the new inline! Couldn't find them again all week to ask questions.

I can tell you as by sound nothing stood out. Sorry can not give any more details.

Can't imagine the heat that beast must generate in that teeny engine bay. The turbo 2.0 has insulation all over creation in that engine bay - hot hot hot.
Imagine the heat of the turbos on a bigger engine and trying to shed that heat while towing any load.
One reason the current 4xe lineup kicks in the ICE so often is because the electric motor down there gets HOT and they have to take some load off it or she'll burn up. The main drive motor is in the front of the transmission, not an easy place to keep cool, and at highway speeds, accounting for drag, rolling resistance and so on, you are pushing the electric motor to close to its capability. It can handle the load fine - if it was kept cool, but at high speeds, 70+, it gets hot down there.
There's times the ICE kicks in at other times - just to allow the electric motor to cool, then it kicks off again.
So with the cats, turbos and all of that generating heat, plus the electric motor in the front of the transmission - I'd be concerned about HEAT.

I used to buy case, motherboard, video card, power supply, etc. etc. of my own choosing - today, check out stores like Best Buy, Costco and others and see what the offerings are. You can still order and build, but it's not like it used to be.
The days of "my type of computer" are gone - heck, the video card is 3/4 of the bloody system. All I wanted was a good computer - but to get some of what I wanted, it was like buying a 2024 model year Gladiator - you must buy high-end gaming machines to get that stuff - you must buy a X model to get those seats.

That's more of an issue that not enough people do it to justify keeping parts in generalized stores. You can still go to places like Microcenter to get parts; and like you said, the internet sells all of that for you. There are plenty of options available without buying a high end gaming machine.

Like I said - we compared parts prices, couldn't beat Costco price by buying those parts "on the internet". Amazon was even worse. But the bits of pieces prices of the memory, system board and other parts - Costco had them all beat (with a good guarantee)
My son knows where to buy and where to look and was digging while we were there.
The individual parts prices didn't make it worth it - I got a machine with the memory and drive space and type I wanted, with a good brand system board cheaper than you can build.

My son has for years rolled his own computers, but started comparing the prices of decent parts compared to a good turnkey system - you can buy one cheaper than the parts.
He went online and looked up the parts and pieces of my latest desktop system and said that it would cost another 300+ to build this same system with the same system board, video, RAM, SD drive and so on.

I'm pretty happy with my Lenovo laptop as it is....... so far, no need to make any changes.

The Hurricane engine has to be a tech nightmare - if things don't operate exactly as planned, watch out.
There's a cool factor to it - an I6 with that much power and torque, but to get there, it's got to be operating on the bleeding edge.
I love the thought - I've been an I6 person for a lot of years, and love it when people get crazy numbers from say a 258 or 4.0, but...........

If I remember correctly it has an independent cooling loop just for the turbos which that alone is sufficient to scare me off. I get that jeeps aren’t renowned for their reliability but at least in 3.6 form they are quite fixable (or replaceable if need be). If I wanted fine handling and a mortgage in repair bills I would have bought an Audi.

A hurricane jeep would be a ‘fun rental’ more than a sane purchase.
