Negative ghost rider, you should be moving slowly in and out of it. Page 170-171 in the manual.
No harm in trying. If it goes into 4lo from a stop, that is just fine. You just don't want to force it. A slow roll will help if you find it difficult.

The RPM change isn't perception. It's just a straight 300rpm gain at idle as evidenced by the tach. That said, since the truck is practically impossible to stall in 4lo, I have never really noticed it until this post came along. Hell, you can just re-start the truck with the clutch engaged if you like. That's in the manual as well......page 153 in mine. Handy when you don't have more than two feet.....like most people.

Per the manual you should shift into 4L at a speed of 1-3 mph. Doing at a standstill is possible just a lot harder.

I was always taught from a stop, and if it wont engage then let the truck move a touch and stop again. Rolling introduces the risk of moving too fast and causing teeth to sheer, rpms to spike, etc.

I'm sure other 4x4 systems vary, I'm just quoting what the manual says. If you read it you'll see it recommends specifically rolling when coming out so the teeth are lined up. Like I said, read that section of the manual, it would answer most of your questions. 👍
