First time topless this weekend - thoughts and observations

1) Taking doors and the top off was surprisingly easy. Once I figured out the clips for the front and pass doors and the rear defroster wiring; disassembly after that was just simple.
2) The doors are so much lighter than my JK
3) The top of the JT is also lighter. My wife and I are finally self sufficient!
4) The topless/doorless combo is awesome while driving... duh!
5) People will look at you while topless
6) LED lights in the back (fold seats down, driver and pass side, small rectangle lights, cool.)
7) Lockable storage on rear driver pass seat (bigger area than rear pass side.) Didn't realize it locked as well.

Nice! Looking to become an owner shortly. Can't wait to pull everything off. Is it pretty straightforward on removing the doors? Didn't have much time to look it over on the test drive the other day.

Stripping naked is a simple task once you've done it once. I picked up a cheap cordless drill at Walmart to make removing bolts quicker. Can be completely naked in under 10 minutes. I don't put the 8 nuts back on doors. I've put screw on sleeves on each one to make removal and replacement easier. Enjoy your new rides and the open air driving! It's a blast!!

I have a cordless ratchet that does a fine job on all the bolts, a little smaller and easier to handle than a drill

the little keychain bottle opener they give away at bars is a great tool for levering off the clip holding the door plug connectors

you don’t notice how much you use your side mirrors until they’re not there ?

The Lange Coyote mirrors work great on my YJ and the set for the JT works great, too. Still have to adjust to the fisheye mirrors but they look and function well.

Great feeling and so much easier than in years past. I wish soft doors weren't ridiculously expensive these days, because I loved them on my old CJ7.

you don’t notice how much you use your side mirrors until they’re not there ?

If you don't pull the red clip up on the front door connectors you'll break the connector. Once you do just press the little center clip holding the white lever to release it and swing the lever out of the way, very easy to do without any tools.

As for mirrors, my cheap solution was to buy a couple things from O'reilly that work well.

Pop the scooter mirror off the post and pull the ball stud out of the "blind spot" larger mirror. Notch the plastic bit on the blind spot mirror to fit the post of the scooter miorror then fit the larger mirror onto the threaded scooter mirror post (the bals are the same size). The threads are the same size as the cowl corner bolts so remove the rearward bolt and thread the mirror post in. Boom, cheap easy doorless mirrors.

Agreed, no need to put them back in. And to make life easier you can swap out the zinc sleeves for ABS plastic ones at the same time.

And one big advantage of a base sport is not having to plug the connectors back in. I just leave them unplugged all summer long so taking the doors off takes just a few minutes.

Very straightforward. They basically lift straight up from the hinge pins. My first time taking the JK doors off, they were kind of fused in there and I had to bang on the underside of the hinges with a hammer and one of the hinge nuts to break it loose. Of course I scratched one of my JK doors during that episode.

The JT doors are lighter, easier to handle (handgrips on the underside of the arm rest) and for me, a bonus because they weren't stuck

2X6 w/3/4" dowel rod, hang door with windows down on the dowels.

A warning to all about doors off...there are multiple threads about the pins bending/breaking when reinstalling front doors. I love having my doors off but this has happened to me twice and it makes me hesitate to remove my doors. There is a push tab that holds the truck side of the harness in place, if you remove the tab it gives you a little more room to try and get the harnesses lined up properly before pulling the white lever and forcing them together.
