I think I understand this. I have one question, though. If wired consistent with your schematic, is it only possible to power the aux lights when the truck is in reverse? It looks to me like the reverse circuit is what energizes the coil which provides the ground to the aux lights.

I am going to do this mod at some point but I would want to have the ability to use the aux lights independent of the reverse light circuit.
Yes, the auxiliary backup lights can only be energized when in reverse with my circuit, this circuit could easily be modified to energize the relay with another switch so you could manually control the aux. backup lights.

Here is how mine came out today with the Carter Fab brackets. I used Dually Pro diffused lights and ended up needing one thin washer between the Carter bracket and the Rigid mount for good alignment. Looks clean enough for my truck. :) I also like how the diffused lens blends the look with the stock halogen tail-light housing (where I also run Alla 921 LED reverse bulbs).

The Carter brackets mount directly to the bolts that attach the bumper to the frame, solid as heck. The tiny self-threading screws that mount the stock reflector are not re-used. Very bright with the dually pro's for something like setting up a campsite, or reverse lights on steroids. Even with the tailgate down they radiate lots of light behind the truck.

Well, my first whack at mounting the back up lights is shown below. Instead of mounting the lights flush, I mounted them on the back side of the replacement metal plate. I will have to oversize some of the holes to get it better positioned. I think they will look pretty good after I paint everything to better match the bumper. They look better from ten feet away ;) . Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Looks great! Best I’ve seen so far.

In hindsight I wonder if you could have gone with a smaller hole the size of the light itself?

When you paint I suggest you paint the hardware too - I personally don’t care for all the silver hardware (bolt heads) on what are otherwise all-black components (e.g., racks, bumpers, sliders, etc.)

Agree about the hardware bolt heads color need to match the light frame.

I decided to go with the Rigid Ignite flush mount lights. Like you did, I'm thinking of maybe mounting the surface mount light on the backside of the plate with just a small hole drilled close to the same size as the round diffused lens. Already have my mounting plate made, waiting to get the lights delivered.

@fonzie used the Rigid Ignite flush mount.

I agree with painting the hardware! Thanks!!

I thought about making the rectangular hole the size of the light but decided to go larger. Like you I think it would look better but decided to go larger. The black aluminum flush mount is angled on about a 45 degree angle. If I had made it small it would be a triangular space all the way around the light that would just fill up with mud. I am hoping that after painting it will look better.

Does anyone know the color of the wire for the backup lights if you splice it in at the trailer connection?

Thanks for the suggestions :)

White with orange stripe, also protected by fuse F111 in the Power Distribution Center.

Those rigid ignite ones should work nicely rear mounted with a small circle hole.

I look forward to your findings and then copying you and telling everyone it was my design. :CWL:

99% Done installing my Rigid Ignite auxilarry backup lights.

I tapped into the reverse and park lights at the trailer connector. The reverse backup light circuit triggers a changeover relay that completes the ground to the auxiliary backup light and opens the ground to the license plate light whenever the vehicle is placed in reverse. The aux backup light will not come on unless the park light is on (the park light supplies the +12 V power to the aux backup light.) The license plate lights always turn off whenever vehicle is put into reverse, even if the park light is off.

I used one of my aux up-fitter switches to manually turn on the aux backup light only if the park light is on.

I covered my mounting plate with red 3M DOT-C2 reflective tape (could change this covering later)

Very lucky, if I would have mounted my aux lights any farther outward, would have definitely had clearance issues with the Rigid Ignite mounted on the back side of my mounting plate.

I think with a bit or re-reading I could cobble your circuit together. Thanks for the explanation and diagram!

Well, I finally finished installing the backup lights and wiring them up. I am very pleased with the end results.
