I was re-ducked ;) Saw a Wrangler in the parking lot with a row of ducks and even had a license plate "DUCKME" So we did. Came back after a walk and the duck we put on their door handle had been returned to ours. NO DUCK FOR YOU.

When I first got my jeep I didn’t know about the jeep community. The salesman told us about the wave. That day I got 8 waves. It was really nice to see others waving.
The Jeep wave died when soccer moms infested the Jeep community. This must be how Harley guys used to feel when dentists started weekend motorcycling.

but it sure seems like less people wave. Maybe because years ago the culture was a little more unique, or smaller
It is this exactly. You also paid a price to drive a Jeep 20-40 years ago. Radios were regularly stolen from them, no much in the way of AC. Loud, made for 2 people really.

Now they are basically regular cars that people that don't even need a Jeep buy them and drive to Target in them. The Jeep wave died long ago. You used to drive ALL DAY and see like 3-5 Jeeps. Now you see 3-5 at every stop light.

On the other hand, if it wasn't for these new "Jeep people" we wouldn't have Jeeps at all anymore. Jeep had to appeal to regular car drivers and they did. It saved the vehicle really. It just cost the community.

I know a friend of a friend who has JL, says the gladiator is not a real jeep
If you (not you, but your friend) want to go that route you can easily make a case that anything post YJ isn't a real Jeep lmao. Kinda wild for a guy with a JL to stand on high ground about what a "real Jeep" is or isn't.

No doubt haha. Guys driving automatic JLU's thinking they know what Jeep is all about. He'd burn up my 92s clutch in a couple of hours lol.

The wave is alive and well where I live in MN. Kind of a fun tradition. Carries on from the Vette I traded in to buy my Gladiator.

The CJs were the last real Jeep. Those YuppieJeeps were the beginning of the end.

My 79 CJ5 had a TF727 automatic, backing the AMC360.

But, definitely not near as many Jeep wavers as there was years back.

The hardcore anti ducking crowd seems insecure to me. If it gives someone joy, who cares. No harm done to you. Plus, every time I’ve seen someone duck my Jeep, or been there to receive one, it was super cute. A little kid and said kid’s parents. I see wild tangents about personal property like it hurts anything. Some people act like it’s the same as some 300 lb dude is dancing on your hood.
Buddy of mine was super anti-duck. He'd toss them in the parking lot and drive off.

I'm not for or against. In the rare case I get one I give it to the kids - but they don't belong on my dash and I'm not re-gifting them to another Jeep either 🤣

The basic Jeep
has gone the way of small houses.
They are not as profitable
as building McMansions.

When I got out of the Army in 1972,
as a veteran with a job and $1 down
I was able to buy a "starter home".

$22,000 at 7% plus property taxes, HOA dues and insurance was $214 a month
on a 30-year mortgage.
1150 square feet, attached garage,
4-inch diameter tree in the front yard,
avocado green appliances
and shag carpeting in the two bedrooms.
We were in high cotton.

A Jeep CJ then was $2,955.
But my Jeep, would come much later.
I bought a used Plymouth.
It was not until 1974 I could afford
my first new car, a Honda Civic, $2,150.

A 50-year mortgage is not the answer
to affordable housing
and 7-year financing or leasing
is not the answer
to affordable transportation.

In Hawaii...I do not Jeep wave. Most all of them are rentals, not owners...I am not going to acknowledge their rental choice. Owners seem to "duck" just to prove they are owners. Ugh.

I don't care for a load of ducks on the dash. All that means is you don't go off road where you'd knock them off. That isn't Jeep, They look silly. Maybe you'd like vinyl flower stickers all over your vehicle like 1968!

Could have been a 3-way scenario. I saw one of those go down a few weeks ago in the parking lot of a Mexican joint.

I try my best not to be a grouch about it but ffs, I wish Jeep didn't attract these types of owners. I'm guessing it is more of an old school vs new school way of thinking.

I will only initiate a wave to Willys (OG Willys), CJs, YJs & TJs tbh. At least then I have a pretty good idea I found a real Jeep guy. When Jeep first started marketing to soccer moms and whatever else buys Jeeps these days, I would wave and did for a couple of years and it wasn't recognized. I realized they weren't Jeep owners, they were SUV owners.

As to the duck nonsense...I guess some people need affirmations from others or to feel like they belong in something?
