How important are these brackets in the picture. The only way I could get an aftermarket bumper on was removing one of the brackets. I tried unbolting and aligning it before just re.oving entirely.

They are the braces for tieing the bumper mounting flange to the frame, should be one on each side also makes the flange thicker as that is what the tow hooks are pulling against on those four nuts. Did the bumper instructions tell you to remove it, and did you remove the other side so bumper sits evenly on flange? I'm assume the aftermarket bumper is designed to not need them if there is no way to put it back. I've put two different winch plates on two different JTs and all utilized that attachment point and looked at others when shopping for and most utilize that, your bumper just might not. Wcberry you sure your 23 doesn't have them on backside where nuts hold bumper on?......Jack

Thanks for the response. My instruction is said to leave them in place. But after trying to drill out the holes, I couldn't install the bumper with the brace attached. The other 3 braces are still on the bumper.

The bumper is an ARB classic stubby with a built in winch plate.

You really don't need them. Most (not all) of the bumpers that came with that bracket are the Non-Rubicon plastic bumpers. They're not as strong as the steel bumpers, so they needed extra support. If you can't align the bumper mounting bolts, remove them. It's an aftermarket steel bumper anyway.

Made this video back in 2021. Probably the only video I asked for a like an subscribe because I don't do that anymore. But, anyway.... since then Jeep probably includes those brackets on more variations than they had back in 2021. BLUF: If you're installing a steel aftermarket bumper, you shouldn't need them.

Is that an 8472 Warn winch. Couldn't get a good view, but what I could see sure looks like one.
And plus too the OP, i left the inside bracket off when installing a Rubicon steel bumper and winch
My winch plate had a place for a bolt so it's still tied in.

That's actually my 8yr old Badlands winch. It's on a car trailer now. And you're right. From the side view, it does kinda look like one.

When I installed my EVO Quarter Pounder, the instructions told me to remove those brackets and were not needed. What @tysongladiator said makes sense, the non steel bumpers need the extra support.
