Yes, 3.6…
Mine is also the ancient 3.6, with 37" tires, lift, and 5.13 gears, my mileage varies between 14-16. I am dreaming of a hemi swap. Would expect similar mileage but with premium fuel.

When you verify your speedo, did you turn off the Bluetooth on your phone? If you didn’t the car would just follow the speed detected by the phone.
I didn’t turn off the phone, but the blue tooth JScan device was disconnected…

Bought a 2024 Gladiator Sport S with Max Tow in November. I love it, but I see threads where people are saying they are getting significantly higher MPGs than I am seeing. I’m wondering if there is an issue somewhere…
Enjoy the time with the Gladiator and think less about the mpg. You are also in winter fuel, which degrades fuel economy. My Max Tow is averaging 13 with remote starts, highway speeds, and weight in the bed. Country roads will help increase the mpg as you will be going closer to the ideal speed for better mpg.

Just for reference… I’ve had my 2024 Mojave X since March . Currently 5,000 miles. Bone stock 33’s …no lift, etc. I’m lucky to see 14-15mpg day to day driving. If I’m on the highway for a long trip, I might see 15-17mpg. I use 87 octane gas. I’ve tried higher octane gas but that didn’t make any difference.
I’ve also verified the MPG listed in the DIC with manual calculations.

From what I’ve read….it might get better MPG with more miles on it….. so we’ll see.

In the summers - we tow a bas boat pretty regularly, so its hard to get an idea of what the mileage would be. But…it’d be around 13-14mpg with towing miles.

4.10 max tow is different than other sports. My Son gets 22-23 mpg. Florida =, no hills. Oem tires ( not even AT) my sport with tow and slightly larger tires i got 18 mpg , again Florida. My new Mojave stock is avg 14.2 so far. So many variables. Only suggestions would be find a flat 5 mile stretch. Set your cruise and check your instant mpg. That is your truck best case scenario. Example. My son in that test gets 27 mpg. My old sport got 20.5. The mojave gets 18. Tires cost mpg. Taller costs. Wider and taller cost more.

With the stock wheels and tires, I averaged right at 16mpg, mostly highway driving. Now, I’ve installed 285/70/17s, and my milage has dropped to 14… (Falken Rubitrek)

I expected a drop with the new wheels and tires, but the overall mileage seems low to me. Any ideas?

For context, in Western West Virginia, so some hills, but I wouldn’t call them mountains. Vast majority of my daily drive is Interstate…
I am from WV .. now I am running 35's with 4.10 rear-end just like your running 286l5's on 4.10 adjust the tire size in the computer with a flashcal or a tazer and ypu will see mileage jump back to 16mpg. I do alot I mean a lot of hill just like you. When I initially switched to the 35's my mileage dropped to 13.6 now I am back up to 16. On open highway steady can get 18. I also switched from 87 to 89 octane that seemed to help alot.

(21 JTR, 3.6, auto, 78k kms) I’m getting 14L/100, city/highway mix on calibrated 315/70/17 K03’s, 87 octane. (That’s 16.8-17mpg)

There’s less rolling resistance with these K03’s than there was with the 2’s and I’m seeing much better Milage with these new tires.

These things are gas hogs if you have a lead foot OR live in west Virginia(read hills/mountains) .
I live in south jersey, going from west to east(67 miles 1 way) at 60mph with a dozen red lights/3 circles and 3.73 8 spd 3.6 with 315/70/17 on the 24th i averaged 19.1 mpg.
When it was a stock overland,
same trip i got 21.5.

If you didn't update your tire size in the computer it'll sometimes just hold lower gears when it doesn't need too cus it thinks it has load that it really doesn't. When i swap my 37s on after being on my 35s for a while. even after reprogramming I'll get ass mpg, 11 mpg, and it won't touch 7 or 8 till it relearns. then hops back to 16.5 and runs fine.

Originally, I got around high 15 MPG. I've recently (with the use of remote start to warm it up before I get in) been getting around low 15/high 14 MPG with my new 2024 Gladiator X in a mix of freeway and city driving (mostly city.) My previous vehicle (a 2014 JKUR) routinely got 15MPG on a good day (no remote start), and at less than 2000 miles, its still new and should improve.
One of the things that I believe really kills the mpg in the city is not only the aerodynamics, but also the combination of being heavy and no regenerative braking. Basically you "spend" fuel to get up to speed, then slow down or stop, then repeat. Add to that the true 4WD system with the added loss of those extra components and ... there you go!

Like you, I always wondered how some people get these crazy high MPG numbers (well _relatively_ high :P ) compared to me with the 3.6 in the JKUR I had. Never got a good understanding for that.

I actually looked around for a diesel when shopping for this truck, but I could only find 2 new diesel Rubicons left within nearly a 1000 miles of my home, so gave up and bought it from a dealership 20 miles away. I also really hoped Jeep might make a 4xe version, but that didn't happen (considering the scary reports of issues with that system, it's probably a good thing they didn't for now.)

Having said all that, I think the 3.6 is a good engine overall now that they worked out a lot if the issues it had in the 2012-2014 models. Its got nearly 300 HP (my parent's 1973 Ford Galaxy 500 with the 351 CI engine only produced like 180HP max), so if you are willing to put your foot into it, it can be more zippy than you'd think.

Originally I got excellent mpg with my 2020 Max-Tow JT, but with tires, skid plates, topper winch and s### load of stuff I'm getting around 16 mpg's now at just under 100k of miles. With the OEM AT tires and keeping speed at 69 mph or less I could get 26-29 mpg. Tire size, weight, pressure, drivers style, along with other variables definitely knocks down or helps it. Heavy bumper(s) and front air dam / skid or lack of plays in too.

Recalibrate the speed ometer at the dealer you are of on miles to fuel used.

I’ve got the 2023 Freedom version with 4:10 axle. It came with 35” tires which didn’t help fuel efficiency. Bottom line is my mileage is the same as yours. It runs 14 -15 mpg. I bought a set of original tires and wheels but have not changed over yet. I hope to pick up 1 or 2 mpg.

My '20 JTR was about 20-21 mpg, 17.5 if I was getting into it more. 13.5 towing a 6x8.
Same JTR with General 37s & Methods corrected with Taser was as high as 19mpg, but around the hills of Snowshoe WV was more like 17.5 unless loaded.
With 1/2 rack and RTT, 15.5mpg.

My most current JTR ('22) is stock, but has Yak. storage boxes and gets 16.8mpg.
