I'm looking to tap my diesel fuel tank and install a pick up tube for a diesel heater. Looking for any tips or hacks. Ideally trying to avoid dropping the tank.

Well, I've seen your post for the last several days without a response. I think it would depend if your heater was higher than or lower than your diesel level. If lower you could just put a hose into your fill spout and start a siphon to see if it works.

Good luck.

That's an interesting thought. It would be higher, but the heater comes with a pump. I'm wondering if there's a way to install a tube in or near the fill spout without messing anything up?? Thanks!

Esh man- rotopax is a no-go huh… ?
Personally don’t like the idea of tapping the main tank for the freak chance that something comes loose or breaks off and being sol….

No, a rotopax would definitely work. I thought if I could find an easy way to tap the diesel tank it would eliminate some hassle. But reliability is a definite concern. Jury is still out on which direction I go. Thanks for the response!

If you tap into the tank. Don't tap below the 1/4 full line. This way you won't empty the tank leaving you stuck somewhere. All motorhomes with generators are like this. When the fuel gets to the 1/4 full mark. The generator can no longer get fuel and shuts off. Leaving you with enough fuel to go someplace and refill the fuel tank.

I would remove the fuel neck and have a 3/8 or 1/4 barb welded on, at a 45 degree angle. Use a submersible fuel line down into the tank and use another external fuel line to the heater pump.

Welded down far enough to avoid hitting the pump nozzle when filling.

There are fuel line taps for bulk fuel tanks that you can run into the Bed of the gladiator, just drop the fuel line in, from your pump.
