Well that shot my idea down! ;) I have not that happen on our 2021 JT. It will only do that if a turn is make on bare road.
Yea, no way I’d try that on dry roads!

My JT does this too in 4wd. It feels awkward like somethings is going to snap or break and u gotta fight the steering wheel. I had a 2005 dodge ram with the manual transfer case and never experienced anything like this. I'm glad to read that it's normal.

You can also try running it with traction control off in 4wd and see if that is contributing to what you don't like. Other then that run it in 2wd and have some fun around turns.
I have found Traction Control to cause all sorts of havoc in tight turns etc.. As @ShadowsPapa has said, conflicting u-joint speeds are exacerbated by confused wheel speed sensors etc.. Even in deep snow or sand it can make the truck hop violently.
Too many smart systems trying to keep us safe.

Yea not a good feeling, but I guess all these responses make sense! Good to know that it’s actually normal.

Welcome to the world of modern 4x4 trucks.

One wonders if that's the reason for the very simplified controls in the Grand Cherokee? There are settings for snow, sand, mud and so on on that dial.

The longer wheelbase and wider track widths will make it worse than something like a Samurai with a 79" wheelbase and narrow track width vs a crew cab long bed dually.

RCV front shafts make things so much smoother!

I have the RCV axle shafts in my Power Wagon. They do make the steering smoother. On hard pack or pavement in 4W. My Power Wagon feels like it wants to bind up. With the front locker engaged. It doesn't like to turn at all.

Can this behavior be eliminated or lessened with a Tru-Trac type helical gear diffy? Problem is, only a Trac lock fits inside the OEM cases.

A Truetrac in the rear will make it worse and adding one to the front will put it on steroids!

This isn't a differential problem, it's not a locker or LSD problem, it's a front axle issue.

Happens to me all the time. I've gotten to where I drive with my hand on the 4x4 transfer shifter like I'm driving a manual (my JT is automatic). I switch in and out of 2HI and 4HI frequently for turns, particularly at very low speeds.

On the one hand I'm now used to it; on the other, this is the one thing that would get me to either upgrade the front axle to an aftermarket RCV or sell the 2020 model to get a newer one with the auto 4HI.

With the Rubicon I already have Dana 44 so the RCV upgraded with Dana 44 seems like a waste, unless used Dana 44s get a decent resale. Anyone know if that is the case?
