I live at 8,600’ in Colorado. They’re fine. If they get coated in a layer of ice, and I don’t notice, the fuse just blows so they don’t damage themselves. I just kick them to free the steps from the ice and swap in a new fuse. It only happens a couple times per winter.
You know, that almost seems to be more of a reason to use a circuit breaker instead. Or would that not be a correct use for a breaker?

That’s a pretty low powered breaker at 12v, 20amp. It’s rare and the fuse is easily accessible. I can buy hundreds of fuses for what a breaker would cost.

Did not have the extra skid plate.

After paying 2400 bucks, silly me thought they would work as the name implies without extras.

Happy to have my money back and have moved on.
There are alot of people that use them as a step only so they don't make the cost or weight higher when they don't need to be. Also, it's nice that you can replace the plate if you need to after.

They are 2400, idk how you would make the cost higher for a step lol, make them out of gold?

Either way, idc what people do, only that they make informed decisions.

If you hit these, they will bend/dent, period.

I don't have the armor as I didn't want the extra weight. I just now received an email from Rock Slide Engineering--they're having a big prime day sale for three more days.

I know they a very pricy but unique and complex as far as sliders goes. I saw a vid on how they are made it's pretty high tech with robots painting and pressing. A lot of cost in this to make. Nobody makes one like them so pricy will stay high. I love how streamlined they are and a almost OEM+ look. With the armor from people that have bashed them good say they protect very well. They say these are not for the hardcore off roader and if you hit real hard, then it will have issues. Wish you had the armor on yours but I know the price just gets carried away more.

I have slammed them down on rocks and though I bent the $#!+ Out of them to find out it was just a scratch. Twice at MOAB, and once on a local trail. I have no armor for them and you would never know that they took a hit. I'm a a fan!

Exactly. When I did cliffhanger, I looked at my friend with me and said, I give it 50/50 that the steps work after what just happened all day. But they were perfect. Zero issues. I rode them like skate board decks. I do have the armor.

I'm heavy, with an Alu-Cab camper and Goose Gear cabinets. I misjudged an angle on a rocky section of the Back way to Crown King, got the front tire well up into the air and came back down hard onto a rock. It hit the slider step (with armor) square on the bottom, hard, the whole group heard it. When I got home after the trip I can't even find a dent.

Sounds familiar. I got stuck in a rocky spot on that trail as well. I was taking what my friends call “Dan Lines”.

I checked but I don't have this one on video. My buddy who was sort of spotting said, "Well, that's one way to do it!"

You mentioned weight a page/month back - i think they told me they are about 70 pounds per side for the JT (lighter for the JLU of course)

Ice and snow - @#$% yeah. This is Iowa and your vehicle gains weight as you drive....... a lot of it. I had one step not want to drop down after one of our ice/snow/slush storms when the truck was covered with ice. It was my wife's side. I got out, kicked the step, the ice broke enough the step came down.
My JT is a daily driver and goes through anything our weather and road crews can throw at it.
