Help me understand the Fox Rubicon shocks

Hey guys, new owner here. Just got a used 2020 JT Rubicon and I’m having a blast with it so far. Previous owner had it spec’ed out with pretty much every factory option and changed tires to 35x11.50 toyo’s.

I’m trying to understand the Fox suspension. My window sticker/build sheet says the car has the Fox 2.0 Performance Shocks, but when I look at the shocks I see the red labeled Fox shocks. I was under the impression that the black labeled Fox shocks which come with the optional Mopar lift kit are the 2.0. Appreciate any input you guys have.

I would like to eventually put a lift on the car as well. Would I be able to add say the Clayton 2.5 ride right lift kit without changing out the shocks?

Would I be able to add say the Clayton 2.5 ride right lift kit without changing out the shocks?
Just an FYI that the Clayton 2.5 inch lift is actually around a 3-3.25" lift. Stock shocks are too short. I guess you could get away with running shock extension brackets like in the basic AEV spacer lift kit includes but there's no real reason to keep those OEM red Rubicon Fox shocks as they are truly sub-par performance.

I wouldn't want stock shocks with the Clayton 2.5" Ride Right. They're too short.

I have the 2.5" Ride Right on mine and it gave about 4" front/3" rear lift. I'm running some cheap Bilstein 5100 shocks with mine and it rides pretty good.

there's no real reason to keep those OEM red Rubicon Fox shocks as they are truly sub-par performance.
not kidding about this either. Im almost maxed out on weight at the moment, lift happens next week and my stock runi suspension is crying. Its drivable. But gotta be pretty careful

Thanks guys. Exactly the kind of insight I was looking for. If I stick with the Clayton 2.5, would the aftermarket Fox 2.0 be a good choice for shocks?

fwiw I have a set of fox 2.0s meant for 2-3 in of lift on the market place. All youd need to do is send them in to fox for a referb. Overall youd be getting the set for way less than brand new.

I’ve had the Fox 2.0 on mine for almost two years and just this past weekend at a Jamboree one of them broke when I hit a tree branch sticking up out of the ground - the piston rod broke right at the bottom where it connects to the bracket. I was going normal trail speed (maybe 10 or so) and I felt it hit, but I never thought it would be that bad. To be honest it was probably kind of a freak accident, but still, it didn’t give me confidence in the Fox shocks.

I ordered a replacement (it’s a $200 fix for the moment) but I’m already thinking about moving up to some of the Falcons with the guard on the rear shocks, combined with something like the Rock Hard 4x4 bolt-on skid plates for the rear LCA and shocks. Of course, once I lay out a bunch of money for that stuff, I’ll never hit anything there again, but like so many people I always plan for the thing that just happened…

The Mopar lift kit comes with Fox 2.5's, not 2.0's.
