Should I choose a Hi Lift 48 or 60? If it matters my JTR has Mopar 2inch and 35's

  • 48 inch

  • 60 inch

  • Hi Lift's are dangerous/unnecessary/too expensive whatever

Been thinking about carrying a hi-lift. I'm running the Mopar 2 inch lift and have 35s. I have good mounting places (ARB Bondi Deluxe up front and Rock Hard 4x4 sliders). I know a 60 inch gives me that extra margin of usefulness but a 48inch version is lighter and more storage friendly. What do you think and why?

How will you use it? Just curious as you see lots of them on Jeeps but not too often actually being used.

Recovery and off road jacking in place of the factory scissors jack. Also I may put it on the hood when I go to the mall. I live in Minnesota and we have a big mall 😁

Mostly I'm trying to figure out whether it is worth it to get a 60inch - I am leaning heavily to the 48inch although its low on my priority list. I have a mile long list of stuff I'd like to get from Diode Dynamics 🙄:piggybank:

I've used it to change out a tire a couple of times in close quarters and also messy situations when getting down in freezing muck was the only other alternative. You can always get the 60" and cut it to whatever length you'd like.

I went with 48 as it fits on the gladiator under rear seat mount. 60 won’t fit. I didn’t want it on the hood or door hinges. I want to be able to put my windshield down at least once a year, and was worried about rust on hinges in either spot. Under the seat is perfect for me. Out of the way and secure, but easily accessible. I have jack points on my bumper.

Exactly what I was thinking. Unfortunately I have the underseat storage bin filled with other stuff. But my bed is watertight - ace engineering upper decker with some mods. But I do like the idea that I could lay a 48 down in the back... thanks for that info!

Bottle jack >
My old Landrover Discovery 2 ('03) came with a bottle jack. The storage location was under the hood, right behind the passenger side headlight. Odd location but good packaging... and it was almost always easy to get to! No need to unload anything...

I resisted the idea, but when I removed the plastic storage bin under the seat, now have more room for things behind the jack.

I also have kids car seats in, and couldn’t even get into the bin without removing them. So it was empty. Now it’s become useful space.
