How does the oil life meter work, when to do first oil change?

They changed it to 3 free Jeep Wave oil changes now since a few months.

20 models had 4 in 2 years. 21 models get 3 in 3 years.

I did my first change at 3k. I wont listen to the computer...I'll do the remaining changes between 7k & 7,300 mile intervals. I also won't do the Jeep Wave changes...at the rate I'm going, I only put 4,000 miles a year on my Gladiator. It's coming up 10 months old and I'm only at 3,800 miles. No sense changing out perfectly good oil. Plus I enjoy doing it myself.

My Gladiator will text me if it needs something. The other day I aired down and I got an alert text telling me to take it to the dealer for tire inflation service.

Who comes up with this crap? LOL amazing my old CJ-5 survived without a cape crusader as co-pilot.
