I have no objections to an electric vehicle.
What needs to happen to make them attractive to me is substantial improvements in overall battery life before replacement; battery life between charges; 10 minute battery re-charges; and in the case of a 4 wheel drive vehicle in particular, like the Jeep, the battery life off-road where the torque requirements at the wheels are substantial and short battery range will be exposed. As well, batteries as we know them do not like to be shocked with vibration and getting bounced around a lot. So until the technology changes I don’t see near future viability for battery powered off-roading.
But when these obstacles are overcome - look-out electric world!

Now, as far as Cali is concerned, have they announced major power generation/supply increases to accommodate the increased electric grid demand for all the electric vehicles?
Didn’t think so. Cali is in brown-outs in the summer already, so there goes that idea.
2035 is a pipe dream for Cali unless this is resolved, and it will be extended for sure.
To be fair this is the first year with rolling blackouts in 19 years due to demand. Wide spread heat waves caused a big spike in demand that hasn't happened in quite a while. 15 years is a long time for changes in battery tech, Tesla has only been around for 17.

Oh, yea, I get that. I am taking the long view here. However, the power grid demands need to be taken seriously right now to be able to pull it off in the future. Perhaps the annual exodus of people will help mitigate the issue.

Well I think I have replied to this thread already so I still have my MJ my LJ is 05 will 250k so I'm averaging 15-19 year between new Jeeps. :like: but dang the D.F. JT's are looking good too and if gas keeps jumping up in cost around my local it'll be more cost effective soon even if I have to do a trade in.....:swear::headbang::mad:
I've even though about doing a electric conversion on my MJ. Some have been doing them to Chevy S10 a and other trucks and like already for short distance driving.

I am fascinated with EVs. Have a Mustang on order. But I think the biggest issue with them as a consumer is the fast pace in which technology is advancing. I worry that buying on in 2021 might be completely obsolete in a few years. Tesla has mitigated that well, but there are still major issues.

We had workable electric vehicles, hybrids, 20 years ago in Cali. People loved them. They could have started then. Who's they? The auto industry. Yep. They already invented this shit long ago and then they themselves killed electro. There's an expose somewhere online with all the cool cars, mind you people lining up to buy them, all these e-cars in a junk yard getting crushed. Then we paid a gazillion in tax dollars to bail the auto industry out. And now the smartest texans in the room want us to join them by hiding in board rooms and gated communities, saying conservative stuff like move to succession territory. It's a joke. Cali solved this decades ago. Maybe the Texans can get it done? ::Tapping fingers waiting on the brilliance soon to come from... Wait for it .. secessionists:

That was GM I think with the EV1. The documentary used to be on Netflix, not sure if it still is.

I shouldn't be so hard on texans. I apologise and I edited my post. I have friends there. I hope they do get it done with tesla or whoever is moving there. But there is a whole thread on these electrics.

The average vehicle still lasts 200,000 miles. Thats my bet for most of these JT's.

My daughter will get to decide who gets to upgrade vehicles first, unless my JT ends up with a hemi at some point. Wife has a JLU and I have a JT, so whichever one she wants in 15 years that person gets to upgrade lol.

So the hemi upgrade. You think the JT platform is good for it? I had a 2 door jeep and the six in it spun the tires... I'm just wondering if that hemi is too much ?

Honestly I'm looking at the Ram 6.4 instead of the SRT8 392 they are putting in the Wrangler. Between that and keeping the 3.73s that are in my Sport should be a fun desert trail truck on 35s. Of course that is all a pipe dream unless I win the lotto or something.

This thing a a perfect desert runner in all trims, and a keeper. Love the camper style people are doing. I'm reading it's underpowered. But some say it's ok power. The hemi thing is an unknown to me. I'm sort of watching that. And the electric. That will be, uh, ground breaking. :like:

Drive it till can't drive it anyone and then hopefully have a place with enough room to keep it as a spare. No major plans other than going to 35's and some additional lights, new bumper and winch when can afford. That's it.

Those Rams are nice, for me it was a toss up between a Rebel and a Gladiator. Gladiator won out because I don't really need a "work truck", just something to haul an occasional load to the dump or to local home improvement store. If at any time I end up needing a heavier duty, I hope it's after the Gladiator is paid off and I can just add a Ram to the garage lol.
Finally put a deal together last night on a 2021 Ram built to serve Air Force edition. Hello Ram, goodbye Gladiator. Jeep’s just aren’t for me.
